About This Game

Game features:

Toy system:

If you want to succeed in battle, simply being the "best shot" is not enough, you will also need a good strategy to manage your military forces. aka your ever expanding toy set.

Thankfully, you're not alone. Use your set of magic toys to defend against monsters’ attacks. Each toy has a specific skill, opening up multiple strategies to take on waves of monster attackers.

Place your cute but deadly arsenal along the paths, between the monsters and your town crystal, and watch as they fight with you to eliminate your enemies.

At the end of each stage, you'll recieve a new monster busting toy to weild in the next zone. By the time you've mastered a few levels, you'll likely have a strong selection of adorable, albeit deadly little allies to help you in battle.

Weapon System:

You're armed with a projectile launching sceptor which can fire magic missiles or use up to three additional special skills, which burn , freeze, or electrocute the monster hordes. Gain energy for these special shots by nailing the enemies in their tracks.

Choose from multiple vantage points:

Teleport between towers, in order to get a better shot at the monsters and increase your chances of victory. Sometimes the best defense is a good offence, and sometimes that means taking the shot from a better vantage point.

Playing instructions:

The magic sceptor works much like a bow and arrow. Hold the business end with your left hand and pull back with your right. Pull back further to fire the projectiles with increased speed and power.

Additionally, headshots count. Aim for the heads to gain maximum damage.
Special elemental shots are managed with the thumb pad on the left Vive controller. Press up, down, left, or right, to choose from the four different elemental shots

Go forth and protect your lands.

Game starts and some 'uncle' walks in what I presume to be his house and tells me he's going to give me a poo on my magic report card unless I do better?? Tower defense in VR good for kids, ok graphically but boring as an uncle taking a shit on your report card in whatever country this dev is from. Also in that country they have hands the wrong way round, so in a country with hands the wrong way round and uncles taking dumps on report cards this may be a good game. Here not so much.

Im not a big fan of tower defense games in general, but this was a pleasant surprise. The game play is rather unique, and works quite well. You have a good variety of defensive structures and unique units (toys) to your disposal and is able to participate in the defense in person as well. At first glance this appears to be a "kids only" game with a cartoony world, toys and a wizard uncle. But its actually turns out to contain challenging tactical battles along the road. The story, dialogue and voice acting is not much to look forward to, but the game play is great.

Child of Ault definitely has a charm to it: maybe it's the whimsical music, or fairly well-designed cartoony environments. However, there is no polish here at all. I can't recommend this game for its many flaws and obnoxious dialogue and voice acting. I completed the game in about 2 and a half hours in two sittings, and didn't particularly enjoy it past the first half. The instructions are confusing, and new mechanics are often thrown in seconds before they are needed to avoid death, particularly during long boss battles. This resulted in dozens of respawns where I had no idea what had happened, and had to die a few more times in order to figure it out. While this might be endearing to a 'hardcore' style of game, it only amounted to frustration and confusion. The system of both spawning creatures and firing your bow-like staff was what drew me in. While it provided some degree of entertainment, the game just wasn't difficult enough (outside of the randomness mentioned above) to make ...

Polished gfx and presentation but an odd amalgam of tower defense and archery with a cartoon style. Some VR games drop you right into character and you feel part of the game but i personally didn't identify with the role of a boy opening up presents from his bearded wizard uncle and then defending crystals from incoming rabbits and other wildlife. The magic scepter draws back like a bow but has 'laser sights' so you can align your target. It's ... different. After deploying your 'toys' (traps, turrets etc) you have a wave of different attackers to contend with. After several levels there's a 'boss' fight with a witch who hurls fireballs. Then i traced a pattern in the air (spell) and the witch was defeated. The voice acting was pedestrian but it was in English (accented US) and there were lots of mid game overlays that clearly show controller functions. I got the impression that there was a lot more levels and variety of scenes ahead. At the current discounted price t...

Just played through and finished on Medium. Took about an hour, though missed a few stars. Hard would probably take longer with some level retries. Game has a cool concept - kindof like a tower defense + archery. The boss scenes are a bit buggy, and sometimes it feels like there are too many tricks being packed in at once in a non-intuitive way. Lastly that little bird with its half-dozen broken english phrases gets pretty annoying. Relative to the other VR stuff out there though, I'll give it 8/10. P.S. For VR tower defense, I much prefer Castle Must Be Mine.

I bought this on a whim and ended up playing for about an hour. So far, I really enjoy it. I got about 75% of the way through the storyline. It feels geared toward kids but I am an adult that enjoys fun kid games (such as Putt Putt and other Humongous Entertainment style games) so it didn't bother me.

I can't recommend a game that loads you in with your hands reversed, especially when the message board shows that this has been an issue since at least 2018.

Reasonably fun until the last couple of levels. I got sick of having 5 seconds to defend myself against something (no idea what) and getting no clues as to how to do that. Then, having failed to do whatever it is I should do, I then restart the level (over and over again). Not fun.

This game is a tower defense title with the worst voice acting known to man. If you can sit through the terrible "plot" elements the game is fairly enjoyable. Definitely wait for it to be on sale before purchasing, but you'll be able to waste a few hours in this title with no real effort, and while gaining at least some satisfaction.

At the time of this review I've only played five levels, and while the game's demographic is clearly for younger audiences, the gameplay itself is fairly fun. The game opens the door to VR's potential in tower defense, and I'm pretty excited for what the future holds. In this I had to place towers, use a bow with a drawback action that shot different types of arrows, and defend myself from the villians spells. Headshots are also a thing and you'll quickly learn to aim for them. I'm not certain what the rest of the game has instore, but what little I've played so far has been enjoyable and I'm looking forward to playing the rest of it. Lastly, I purchased this during a 80% sale, so while I think it will earn its $9.99, it's definitely worth picking up when it's only $1.99.
