This is what I consider to be in the real 'Goldilocks' zone of narrative adventure games ("walking sims"). For every second of the two-hour play time, you have something interesting to do. The environments throughout the station are all distinctive and excellently realized, and there is never any doubt of where you should go next despite a relatively light amount of guidance and hand-holding. That alone is an incredible feat of level design. I have a terrible sense of direction. The in-game map does you the kindness of implicitly showing you which doors you can enter, which you have already entered, and those that you cannot open just yet. And this came out a year before RE2 remake, a game that was lauded for its extremely similar map design. One of the best things that a narrative adventure game can do is make you feel close to characters that you never actually meet. Games like Gone Home, SOMA, and What Remains of Edith Finch are the best in class at this, and The Station is right...
