Dispersio

A nice relaxing soundtrack, with a gameplay mashup of mechanics from Super Meat Boy, VVVVVV, Dustforce, and a few others. It's not doing anything innovative, but it's a nice remix of platformer elements that you've seen before. This game is a steal at its current price.

Originally this was a positive review. However, apparently, the developer of this game got upset at my negative review for the sequel and decided to try and get the review for that game banned. This isn't the first time a developer has acted childishly like this as the developer of Red Goblin Cursed forest tried the same thing, causing the review for that game to be "reported" for several years before steam finally dropped the frivolous report. Amazingly, this time steam actually fell for it and unjustly banned my review despite it not violating any rule. As such, I can not recommend playing any games that this developer has ever made or will ever make in the future. Stay far away from this game and anything else that is made by Achpile. As for Achpile I have this to say: if you can't handle criticism, get another career. Edit: He opted to get another career. Good.

A hidden gem, really. It's sad to see it rotting away due to its lack of popularity.

Very good platformer. 7 different mechanics. All of them are implemented in a good way. Very good physics and controls of all of them. Wall jump could be a little bit better, but still good. Awesome boss in the end, perfectly fit game mechanics. Big thanks to all staff - Achpile, Creepue, all testers = you did a very good job. I wish last level would be 2 times longer ) On hard mode (no checkpoints + harder final boss) Dispersio is even better. Music is outstanding. I haven't even noticed loops. Absolutely amasing tracks, caves and castle are my favourites. 10/10

Surprisingly varied, if slightly too exacting game. More than worth the price.

This game is challenging, but not overly punishing. It reminds me of the old EGA games I used to play in the early 90's as a child and brings back so many great memories. I can't wait to get home for the holidays and grab a copy for my brother so we can play side by side together to see who can finish levels first - and to generally have more time to game - I will be editing this review as I get through the game. (So far I've completed the first stage, Factory, and Egypt) Pros: -Available on Linux, Windows, as well as Mac OS. -The Soundtrack is excellent. It's a really cool balance between real instrumentals and chiptune music. -Works well with my Xbox 360 gamepad, controls are great. -The player can get addtional powers, jumps, and skills - So far I've only achieved the freeze skill and it's been fun to use to overcome certain challenges. -60 FPS. This looks and sounds great and has all the makings of a good game, but there's too much precision jumping - a so begins the cycle: death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! I really wanted to like this game and I got the the final boss and guess what: death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! death repeat! No fun at all. It's totally linear as well.

This is a retro-style rage game. Think Super Meat Boy or IWBTG. However, there are few to no cheap tricks or trolls here. This is not a beginner's platform, so you're really going to have to get good. Fortunately, respawns are rapid and checkpoints are generous.

Dispersio is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. In fairness this one does a pretty good job of capturing the look and feel of 8 bit games, but that in itself is a problem because it's 2023 and Commodore 64's became obsolete over 30 years ago. And if I wanted to play C64 games, I'd emulate them. But I don't, because I was there, and nothing pleased me more than seeing technology advance and improve. If you've seen any of my reviews before, you'd know of course there's a lot of disdain for lazy pixel "art" being used instead of proper graphics, but what really bugs me when pixel "art" gets used is that it doesn't resemble the gaming machines that produce them, be it because it's mismatched or just plain inauthentic. So here, it at least looks and feels authentic, so kudos to the developer for doing something they shouldn't do, but at least for doing what they shouldn't do...
