About This Game

The year is 1812. Great Britain and her allies are battling Napoleon for control of Europe. In response to British seizure of American ships and goods, the young United States declares war on Britain and invades Canada. You and up to 4 other players take command of the armies of the British Redcoats, Canadian Militia, and Native Americans, or of the American Regulars and American Militia to decide the fate of the Americas. The action takes place on a huge historically accurate map that spans the United States and Canada from Detroit to Montreal. Players from each faction cooperate to gain control of key towns and forts.

1812 features fast, intuitive and fun gameplay that involves teamwork and strategic planning in a historic and educational setting. This is THE GAME for people who want an enjoyable and manageable introduction to historic/conflict based games.

In 1812 - The Invasion of Canada, players take on one of the roles of the major factions that took part in the War of 1812. On the British side these are represented by the British Regulars (Redcoats), Canadian Militia and Native Americans; and the American Regular Army and American Militia comprise the American players. Players for each side will cooperate with each other in order to plan and conduct their campaigns. Each side will attempt to capture Objective Areas on the map. When a truce is called, the side that controls the most enemy Objective Areas wins.

  • 3 Scenarios – 1812, 1812 (Short) and 1813.
  • Play solo vs. 3 AI difficulties
  • 60 Cards (Movement & Event)
  • Up to 5 player hotseat multiplayer.
  • Faithful conversion of the original board game.

A poor conversion of a great boardgame. 1-No replay function in a multiplayer game 2-Bug on history box, reported by me to the support team two month ago without any response 3-Bug on the UNDO button, the event cards eventually played are irreparably lost 4-No discard pile, hence I can't verify the cards already played by me/my opponent (absurd in a boardgame heavily based on cards interaction) 5-no pausable option between CPU turns 6-If I switch on "cubes" mode, the cubes are totally covered by the fort sprite (that I can't toggle off, unlike the fort name) 7-The fist impression on AI is not good, I won my very first game 5-1 on the normal level without reading the rules 8-The price is too high, especially in relation with the above-mentioned points I hope in a future patch because the boardgame is interesting and it deserves a great videogame conversion; in this case I'll happily update my review

This game is slanted greatly toward the American side which is historically not what happened. Expected a hex generated game but got Risk like game. Until they balance the game better do notr bother buying it. Your worst game i have bought from Hexwars.

An accurate and complete rendition of the boardgame, quite suitable for hotseat play if you don't own a physical copy. No bugs experienced for me on Windows 10. Like the physical version, really gives some useful historical insights into how the actual war was fought. The single-player AI isn't flagrantly stupid, but it's nothing an experienced boardgamer likely won't have figured out inside of two tries... at two hours for a game, that's four hours of value, unless you can find a human to play with after that. Probably not worth the current non-sale Steam price, but still a solid product that does what it promises.

The AI is unfair. The luck it has - especially in critical situations - is absurd.

A great digital conversion of an Academy Games title. The UI is intuitive and game play is easy to pick up. I enjoy the board games in the Birth of America series quite a bit and appreciate having an AI opponent, both to play against and practice various ideas for FTF games. One of the better games from HexWar, in my opinion.

This game is different from most of HexWars games. Perhaps in the early days they tried different things. Anyway, this game is similar to RISK, in that you have a certain number of armies with which you will fight your enemies to see if you can control more areas of land than your foe. There are four different scenarios. Highly recommend.

Nice interface, and easy to understand map. Unfortunately, there is a glitch that allows the AI US player to move extra spaces, which really messes with the dynamics of the game. Otherwise, a good game!

If they could create this game without the AI Cheating all the dice rolls, it would be amazing.

Daft dice rolling game. I thought we had moved on from that!
