Another game that could have been a masterpiece, but suffers from heavy flaws in various aspects of design. Starting with how monotonous, dull, uninspired and empty the locations feel. But there's much more that could have been better. Overall, I recommend it, but just barely, and because it's a bit different from most metroidvanias; because, damn, it's frustrating that this could have been such a good game and ends up being ultimately mediocre. The lore is a shallow mess, the voice of the Trapezohedron that talks to you is very cool, but far from enough to make what is said barely interesting. Also, the devs went a bit too heavy on lovecraftian names (without really catching a lovecraftian atmosphere), stamping in the middle of the screen those unspeakable location names like Pfkyt'aan Mglub Grathakleemushopitech (not an actual name in game, but they're along those lines), and then you have lore character named Nelson, totally killing the vibe (same with enemies, on some locations y...

Designed as a challenging adventure for seasoned gamers, frequent deaths are part of the Sundered experience. But taking our inspiration from our favorite rogue-like games, death in Sundered is only the beginning.

User Reviews
The biggest disappointment of this game is that it was made by the same studio as Spiritfarer, a vastly superior game in literally every aspect. So presumably, someone over there knows (knew?) how to make a good game. But Sundered ain't it. At. All. So, where to begin? I'll start by saying I want to like this game. I really do. But by the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, it's annoying AF to play. Here's why: Infinite enemy spawns across certain areas of the map is a concept that sounds great on paper but in practice it detracts from the game. Consulting the map is impossible when this is happening and once it happens, it never. Stops. Period. Trying to navigate the map while enemies infinitely pelt you completely undermines the metroidvania aspects of the game. The end result is that you rush through entire swaths of the map simply to get the endless barrage of stupidity to leave you the fuck alone. The only way to get this crap to stop is to teleport back to the "base" which resets th...
It's the gameplay of a metroidvania with the gameplay loop of a roguelike in the overall structure of a metroidvania. If you don't like both metroidvanias and roguelikes then this game is not for you.
The art and sound design are pretty good the rest is mid.
One of my favorite metroidvania games, with a twist on the usual map that I really enjoy. The pseudo-randomness means I can learn enough of the map, but still have exploration to do. Sphere grid? Yes plz. Death let's me spend my points? Feels good. Bosses are some of the best. The combat feels fantastic, movement is great (using a controller). Lots of light, easy combat moments broken up by dealing with hordes of monsters. The choices of what to do with your abilities makes replay great. I've beaten it 5 times across multiple platforms now, this game should get more love.
Fantastic. The beginning does feel somewhat awkward, but once you start getting movement abilities, the wave based combat encounters and traversal really starts to feel good.
If you like metroidvania games you'll love this game
Well what can i say, it is a nice Metroidvania type of game that is worth buying if on sale. Not too long, not too short. The story is not something out of the ordinary. What i find a little BS is that in order to get all of the achievements you have to play the game 3 times, otherwise bye bye 100%.
An incredible experience I still think about and come back to years after I found it. A treat on the ears and eyes with incredible sound design and level design, along with a wonderful world fairly rich with a story that unveils at your pace. While not the easiest to replay on harder difficulties later, Sundered and its unique endings depending on your choices of abilities and fun game play changes depending on what you like (corrupt run is incredibly fun though). Get some 15 hours and have fun exploring.
I am playing the linux build of this game, which did work at first. but at some point it just stopped working, and only flickers. while I do like this game I can't recommend it if you play on linux because it's simply broken.
