AnimVR is my number one VR creation tool to use for work. A majority of my current career is built around this app because of how versitle it is. But best of all, the dev team is friendly and FAST. New features arrive all the time that completley change the game. Unlike other tools, this isn't just a modeler, you can paint, edit, film, add sound design, add filters... Honestly every part of the cinematic process is in this app. If the aesthetic is not your vibe, I highly recommend checking this out at least as a pre-viz tool for your stories. You could design EVERY shot out in AnimVR before you even start your 3D modeling in another program. Mastering AnimVR takes time, just like every art form, but the tools are all there.

About the Software
TRADITIONAL ANIMATION - ALL AROUND YOUHand-drawn animation in VR combines the best parts of traditional animation with the advantages of digital content creation tools. Jump right into story telling, without worrying about topology, rigging or skinning.
Create environment layouts, 3D story boards, animatics and whole experiences!
According to industry animators, drawing 3D story boards in VR is just as fast as the traditional 2D workflow, but it gives you the freedom to move the camera anywhere you want!
TELL STORIES - FOR VR IN VR
We've worked hard to make storytelling straightforward and fun. Lay out your shots in AnimVRs timeline, fade layers with customizable transitions and sync your animation to music or dialog!
Our cinematography tools allow you to record camera movements with a digital steady-cam system, cross fade between shots and easily preview and tweak Stereo 3D settings.
Record and edit audio directly in AnimVR using the headset, or any connected microphone!
You don't even have to leave VR to create the final executable! AnimVRs Story Export allows you to compile your experience into an executable that you can freely share.
USE THE TOOLS YOU KNOW AND LOVE
Wether you are used to working in Maya, Houdini, Blender or even Unity, we provide exporters and importers so you can easily integrate AnimVR into your production pipeline.
AnimVR natively supports importing many standard file formats, from FBX and OBJ over GTLF to Universal Scene Description (USD) files.
Export your animations as Alembic Cache or USD and continue working on them in traditional content creation tools. Thanks to our Unity Toolkit you can directly use your stage files in Unity, no export or import required.

User Reviews
This is a neutral review based upon my first impressions, which will hopefully change with time, experience, and updates. My initial complaint is that the "beginner" tutorials do little to explain how to actually use the software. They demonstrate a few useful features, no doubt, but I'm a newbie trying to give form to my stories. I spent twenty minutes just trying to paint the skybox layer and still couldn't manage to get it to take a drop of paint. Might just be a PEBCAK error, but I would REALLY appreciate some, uh, "level zero" tutorials.
As of right now, almost impossible to use. The drawing tool would randomly draw lines when you don't want it to and half the time when you draw something in a single frame, it would be drawn in the previous frame. Untill, these bugs get sorted out, don't buy this sofeware.
It's a powerful software when it works, but I haven't been able to use it for the last 5 months because like many other people, my right controller keeps registering input when it shouldn't, and doesn't register input when it should. Multiple people having this issue implies this is a software issue. It has been reported on their steam forum for months now, but there is no indication that the developers are even aware of it. Do not buy right now.
Love this app. I was in the beta. And it works great.
The devs are still active on their discord so go there if you have any questions though it hasnt been updated in a while, i say its worth getting if you enjoy animating.
Does not work on Oculus quest 3 !
If you use the valve index controllers you will not be able to pan grow and shrink the stage. Which is a critical feature. The tutorial videos won't play. The application will interact with panels that are behind the panel you are pointing your controller at. Not worth the money.
This software has a ton of potential, but none of the tutorial videos work. You can learn some of the basics from loading sample scenes but, in the end you are on your own to learn the controls. There is a lot to the controls. The layering system, the various movement options, the onion skin controls. I think this software could be perfect for someone, but it's not for me. ALSO, it works just fine on the HTC VIVE.
Simple, Easy Fast!
