I have hunted for this game for almost two decades. I only ever played the demo, but I loved it and replayed it multiple times. I then forgot the name of the game and spent many years thinking it was Black Cauldron or Black Song, but never remembering "Black moon." Then I finally found it. Black Moon Chronicles. YES! So, I purchased, installed, and launched. But the game wouldn't launch. BLARG! I was able to get it to work by launching as admin from the local files. See discussions for more advice if you need it. Now to the game: Black Moon Chronicles is a viscious game that would probably not find love with many modern audiences. The campaign dumps you right into the unforgiving gameplay with little advice. So, you made it through the first two skirmishes and died on the third? Restart the campaign. Ouch. I had forgot about the brutal of 90s game restarting. For me, BMC is the perfect middle ground between the chaos of Starcraft and the often tedium of the Heroes of Might and Magi...

Warning: not sure if this game works on Windows 10, can't get it to start messing about with compatibility settings etc. Still reccomending as it was such a brilliant game when I played it from CD back when it first came out. As an RTS / tactical combat game I'd give it only about 6/10 , gamesplays not bad, but not smooth and not quite tripled A production values. The outstanding qualities of this game are the old fashioned story telling, great music and voice acting, about half an hour of excellent in game movies. The setting is medieval / high fantassy and you have one faction that seems to be perfectly pure and good which makes a change from the shades of grey you get in most story telling these days. Would buy and not be able to play again!

It won't work by itself. You won't get music working. You won't see cutscenes. But it's a gem, a precious and nostalgic gem with great potential.

To be honest - you probably won't be able to make this one run, but it seems like compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service pack 3) and 640x480 resolution works. If you wonder wheter to by this or not - yes. Even though it's a brutal old-school RTS where you might fail pretty soon, you will get an access to an awesome soundtrack, which is worth the money alone :)
