It's great this game is available on Steam - I remember having the demo from a PC Gamer Magazine [UK]. HOWEVER, the game WILL REQUIRE you to hop over the workshop or fan forums to get running (and stay running) with patches as it hasn't been optimised for Windows 10 / Windows 11. 7.5/10

Still the best rpg I've ever played!
The fantastic creativity behind this game makes me love it and come back to it despite all the small mechanical issues it has. Arcanum approach to magic and technology feels truly unique. It's a great shame Troika games never made it far despite their every title being masterpieces in so many ways. I'm glad the original team did continue their own paths and their legacy lives on (just check what they've been involved with). I do wonder what Troika could have done with Fallout 3 if they would have gotten the tile and a publisher as they tried to do. One can hope that perhaps we shall see Arcanum 2 one day.
I bought this game when it came out. This is my favorite Steampunk game. I'm looking forward to the release of Clockwork Revolution as everything I've read about that game leads me to believe that it may be kind of a spiritual successor to this game.
I played with UAP, only enabling the patches, not the mods or additions. I'm going to make myself very clear: do not play this dogshit meme of a game. It is an idea for an unrealized game, not a game in it's own right. It is a cool idea, I admit, and I would welcome a competent developer, one who have completed a game this century, like Whalenought or ATOM, taking a stab at realizing a true Arcanum, but I will not blow smoke up your ass. Playing this game will prove whether you are a Man, or a witless cultist. The game released in beta, I'm well aware. Its nigh a quarter century old, but unlike Planescape, IWD, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, this isn't a game worth finishing. It isn't difficult, in fact if you want a difficult game, make yourself ugly and don't save the dog. However, it is unfathomably tedious. My second character, the default dwarf, has aged five years simply walking to his objectives. Where's the pacing? Developers who can't control themselves need a main quest timer, as i...
Classic old game. Tons of places to explore and stuff to collect.
One of the best of its genre for its time.
It kills me to say it but I do not recommend anybody buy this game. I have tried running it both with and without the unofficial patch, and at least for me it is completely unplayable in both modes. YMMV. If this could actually be made to work it is a masterpiece old school rpg, but that is a moot point if it won't run.
