Whilst I can readily recommend this to players who possess more skill, intuition and dedication than I have, it is with great regret that I find myself uninstalling this game after once again attempting to master the basics of its gameplay. Even on the lowest difficult setting, essentially "entertainment" level, I still find it far too difficult to complete missions without losing several crew members and, usually, the entire boat itself. Quite how anyone manages damage control limitation whilst attempting to plot a torpedo solution for a destroyer or corvette that are bearing down on them at the same time is beyond me. I always watch the videos of Wolfpack345 and other players, enjoying their patrols and admiring their skill, but even with the appreciation of their methods and tactics, these do not translate to my game when I attempt a mission. Having bought the game in early access, I can see that it has been developed and enhanced by its creators from a reasonable beta produc...

About This Game
UBOAT
UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
- Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
- Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
- If crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
- Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
- Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
- Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
- Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up a research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!

User Reviews
Outstanding game that I have properly enjoyed, it is made for all kinds of players from casual to submarine experts and all of them can have just as much fun, very dynamic and overall breathtaking game. Good job devs!
This game is f***ing broke. Everytime after i load my savegame the torpedo calculatior is going crazy and doing shi*. I have no fun anymore of playing this game...
Huge potential but vanilla seems bit bland and buggy. Also you need mods to get game more realistic as movement of the sub, ship convoyus etc. need work. Sadly only one mod that makes shipping more lively does not work anymore... Also seems bit heavy even I have quite powerful system. Personally made me miss SH3 and GWX mods. Hope I can update my review soon to better. Potential is there but was bit surpriced as this game is released quite a time ago...
The game is great and everything. But there is some things that I think need to be added, more modifications such as: -More AA guns and having an option to change them without chaning conning tower (Of corse they need to be compatible to conning tower) -Adding more types of conning tower (not making them exlusive for different types of U-boats) like U-flak (Also adding a conning tower for Type VII A from the start of Silent Hunter 5 where AA gun is placed behind tower on a deck and for VII B where there is 2 20 mm AA guns but one of the have like separate tower on behind ship). -Adding more types of U-boats auch as: -Type II B, II C -Type VII A, VII C/42, VII C/43, VII D, VII E, VII F -Type IX A, IX B, IX C, IX C/40, IX D2, IX D2/42 (Yes i know there was only one of it and I konow that some of this will be added ) -Type XXI, XXIII, XVII A (Or WA 201), XVII B (It would be pleasure if at least half of listed ships have been added to the game.) -More emblems (I remember th...
CONGRATS PUSHING TO CONSOLE HUGE! HUGE! LEAP! THIS WILL BE OUTSTANDING, never thought a day in my life a uboat game would come to console all the way from silent hunter to UBOAT taking big leaps! LET THE DEVS KICK BUTT!
Play for a few days and quite fond of this game after I managed to get to 1941. But sadly have to uninstall due to bad optimization that cause my PC to create loud noises even in main menu. I played with lowest graphic settings and I don't have this kind of problem with other bigger or more complex games. So don't play this game unless they can have better development or fixes.
First off hats off to the developers.. ! amazing simulation guys . Personally a very big fan of German machinery, secondly im a seafarer myself,(merchant ships getting torpedoed not the best in reality, hehe), Since a young kid the "UBoat" was really something that stuck like a thorn in my mind, & movies such as Das Boot, U 571, being there doing that, the pressure the crew handles, its just beyond words.. & now, im so thrilled, about the simulation tat gives u exactly the same.. I would certainly love to contribute to the game with a few suggestions, & mayb it might be added just fine ..! Good job again Guys ! Keep Rocking
I wasted $9 and 12 hours of my time on this game. The mechanics of this game and the tutorial to start with never went through testing in my opinion.0 Still a terrible game. I tried to push through the pain but I am done. Don't buy this game if you appreciate good instruction if you have never played a sub game.
Accidentally surfaced inside a convoy in December 1942, immediately got hit by heavy artillery fire. Submerged, got chased by 2 corvettes and 4 destroyers and hit with depth charges and anti-sub mortars. I got sunk and died. Recommended! :D
