About This Game

sphereFACE is a retro-styled 3D vector shooter, wrapped around the inside of a sphere.

An unashamedly abstract shooter that ranges from slow, strategic sniping to frantic rock-dodging action, with roguelike elements of exploration, progression, discovery and permadeath.

GAMEPLAY

 • Destroy the "asteroids" in each sphere to unlock the hyperspace portals leading to other spheres, and navigate through a vast procedurally generated 3D space, homing in on the disturbance that woke you from slumber.
 • Sophisticated inertial flight dynamics on the inner surface of a sphere are difficult to master - agility, awareness and good reflexes are essential to survive.
 • Look freely around each sphere using mouselook, a controller, your keyboard, or even your VR headset.
 • Roguelike single-save system featuring permadeath.
 • Dark and twisted science fiction storyline.
 • Arcade style top-10 high score system.
 • Determine your own difficulty curve - progress cautiously and slowly, or charge in with guns blazing.
 • Stray too deep into the hyperspace tunnel network and it won't be long before you meet something that shoots back...

WEAPONS & POWERUPS

 • Collect and upgrade a variety of destructive and unusual weapons, such as the spreadGUN, gaussRIFLE, guidedROCKETS, spaceMINES, flameTHROWER and singularityCANNON.
 • Destroy "enemy" ships and catch their "powerups" to improve your weapons. That is what they are, right?
 • Fashion armour from smashed asteroid rock, and find movement augmentation devices such as reverseTHRUSTERS to improve your maneuverability.
 • Each weapon has its own strategy and learning curve, but the true sphereFACE master must learn to use them in concert with each other.

MUSIC

 • A full album length original score by five awesome professional musicians, featuring ambient electronica mingled with deep techno and a sprinkling of chiptune.

TECHNICAL

 • The game engine is completely custom built, which allows sphereFACE to have exactly the gameplay experience it needs with no limitations. The game is highly optimised and will run smoothly - even on that old notebook.
 • Fully configurable controls - bind any control to any key, mouse button, gamepad button or stick, joystick axis or even foot pedal; any combination of devices can be used to control the game.
 • Theme support - create and share a customised look for the game.
 • Simultaneous updates on Windows, Linux and macOS.
 • Ongoing development - new features and improvements added continuously, professional and highly responsive development team.

This is a 3D asteroids-em-up with a roguelike leaning. It's fun to shoot stuff right in the face (the sphereFACE) with lasers, so if you enjoy lasers then this game delivers. If you don't like lasers, what is wrong with you? Also, the soundtrack is good.

Just had my first win. sphereFACE is just fantastic. This dev knows how to make a game - lots of content, great atmosphere, awesome achievement progression, plenty of options, lore, and most importantly - a really fun and addicting game mechanic. The VR support is just icing on the cake (I didn't try it yet, though). When I first loaded this up, I almost immediately shut it down and refunded because of the wonky control setup. I think it was actually in 'VR mode'. But I was intrigued by the other reviews, and how they had 1) tons of playtime, and 2) talked about a large but satisfying learning curve. Yeah, that's true. I could barely steer the ship in the first 30 minutes, but now I'm jetting around and feel like a pro. It's neat. Essentially, this is a very modernized version of Asteroids. Of course, it's a roguelite, and that part is really fun. Whenever I died, I generally felt like it was my fault. You slowly but surely get better and start to understand how ...

SphereFace is a very fun game that I enjoy playing, shooting asteroids with different weapons. In it you can navigate your way through a maze of spheres connected by tunnels, each sphere is different and has pickups or suprises inside them. I really like the "bonesphere" part of the game, where if you die in the game you can then play again and find the sphere you died in to collect your items from the last try. The music is great too and fits the game well.

Really cool game! Love playing it when I have some free moments, it's always as challenging as the first time though :p Gonna be hard to master. If you find this on offer, definitely worth getting. And if it's not on offer, well, still a fun game to have for those moments when you have nothing to do. Linux support is greatly appreciated too!

This is a really cool, indie shooter game. One of those games that you keep seeing more and more good stuff. It starts out strong, although perhaps a bit strange, as it is a very cerebral shooter. A lot of really cool things going on: tons of weapons that must be painstakingly upgraded, a three dimensional map meta-map, and an overall objective that must be discovered through repeated games. This is the astroids game that mrs. pacman must envision it when she closes her eyes during foreplay. sphereFACE has some very sexy gameplay for any action fan.

Totally playable and totally unplayable at the same time! Almost too indie for its own good, 1/2 arcade game 1/2 arthouse. This game is a paradox and I'm glad it exists. I salute the creativity!

Get a Vive, Xbox One controller, and decent pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Play while standing up and holding the controller. Put a contemporary political podcast on. Lose yourself in the greatest cyberspace-like experience since Rez. The game is not without issue—the main one is, sometimes the game hangs, almost always when you die by flying into an asteroid at high velocities. Because of the way the game is made, this hang causes the game to stop rendering while it resolves crazy collision stuff or whatever. This is pretty much always when you die, so it's not a HUGE issue, but it would be great if this could be fixed. Plus, the game is written from scratch in a custom engine, so it's hard to hate it. Other than that, the game is pretty much perfect. I love the aesthetic, and the roguelike-like repeatable gameplay. I've fantasized about VR games with vector graphics on the inside of a sphere for years—it's great to see that it's as awesome in practice as it is in theory...

Pros: -Large variety of weapons to play around with -3D interface is intuitive and adds to the overall experience -The soundtrack is killer! -Fast paced gameplay that keeps you on edge Cons: -Learning curve is high I started playing this game not really knowing what to expect other than a retro shooter, but man is it more engrossing than that. The sensitivity of the controls can be extremely high at the start of the game but you can always customize it to your liking, including the way the camera is handled. At first I couldn't handle the speed of my ship and kept slamming into the asteroids in the area, but after a few adjustments I got the hang of it a little better. One thing I really like is that your bullets will continue revolving around the inside of the sphere until it hits a target which can be good or bad depending on what they hit. I had leveled up my spread gun to the max and my bullets were ricocheting all over the place, blowing apart the asteroids and sending waves ...

I've only played for a little bit and I've concluded that rouge-like games suck, however this game doesn't suck. Honestly it reminds me of scalding hot pizza rolls on a freezing winter's night - a bright spark on a frozen lake - the lake is, of course, the growing indie game pool. You have to take it slow or you'll burn your mouth - an ordeal which will end with you swearing that you'll never trust any food that's been in your microwave for longer than 350 nanoseconds - after slowly building confidence, you can go faster gaining new upgrades, weapons, faster, you've cleared 7 spheres now, your fingers start to ache yet you push on, clearing sphere after sphere, you finally realize how vulnerable you are. you are weak. like a baby hiding behind your various powerful enamel weaponry, an orchestra of downbeat techno echoes against the foggy sky as you finally clear your 20th sphere and it ends. One slip of the finger. Your assured death. You die a bit on the inside and start wailing inter...
