As much as I want to finish Nioh, I think it's not resonating with me. I have looked everywhere to see like-minded people who doesnt hate Nioh but doesn't like it as well and everytime I see them, they get a LOT of hate lol. PROS (+) Exploration is one of Nio's good traits. Exploring the hub/world was actually really rewarding where you can find shortcuts, somewhat decent gear, and those helpful spirits that give you boosts in stuff (exp, gold loot, material loot, etc) HIT OR MISS (?) A new take on combat (at that time) where it was Sekiro, Souls, and Ghost of Tsushima at the same time. In some cases you can even say it was really ahead of it's time but to me Nioh felt that it wanted way too much while giving you so little. If I can be more specific, it wanted a more aggressive approach to the whole game (like sekiro) but has too little to offer in terms of stat and gear to go up and try new things. (?) On my playthroughs, I can summon people but I can't seem to get summoned?...

Not recommended, maps are terrible, very confusing, so much time wasted. Enemy level scales with you. No point on grinding, you will waste time again. You won't feel like you overpowered them at some point. Combat is good, variety of weapons, different feels. I love Dual Swords and 1 hand Sword. I just want to finish this so I can move on to Nioh 2, will see if 2 is good

Game starts off great. You can feel some progression. Learn a lot of the games systems in the first few hours, feel like you're starting to "get it" and then you really "get it" and realize this game is kinda shit. You can grind like 5-10 levels in some missions and feel strong - for that mission, only for the next mission to make you feel like you didn't level at all. I was level 60 something doing missions that had a suggested level of 50 something and felt like I was under leveled. I hate games that "level up" with you. Whats the point of getting stronger just for the enemies to always stay stronger than you? Fighting enemies at level 60 felt worse then at level 10, because they just get so much more stronger than you possibly can with each level. A game about grinding, levels/gear/prestige/reputation, only to make that grind ultimately pointless.. well that was quite a choice to make I suppose.

We got 3 Nioh games before a PC Port of Bloodborne. That's why I love Nioh, and not Bloodborne. I ACTUALLY GET TO PLAY THIS GAME.

Was expecting a souls like but got something very different. Nioh is its own thing and does it well. Difficult but gives you plenty of tools to tackle its challenges. It combat is very rewarding if youre willing to invest some times into learning its many mechanic, something as unexpected as a tea house could end up making or breaking a build. Its set with an interesting premise for anyone whose into Japanese history though there is alot to be missed if your not familiar with its time period. Wish it had a better coop mode though!

Nioh is one of those games where I kind of just bought it on sale because I love souls-like games and ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.
Positives:
The world is well designed, but it is 1600s Japan, so there isn't that much inventive you can do about it. It's good. Almost everything about the combat is a positive, it's excellent for the most part and I will cover the few negatives below, even if they are more nitpicks than actual negatives. The living weapon is a really cool mechanic. There are only 7 weapon types, each weapon type have many different sub types, but those don't determine anything else than looks and basic stats, every variation within any of those 7 weapon types have access to the same move set, so you can pick based on your preference. This is probably a bit of positive and negative depending on where you stand, to me it felt kind of neutral, maybe a little positive. Build variety in this game is wild, you have so, so many option...

When I first played this game in 2018 I kept getting stuck at the 2nd boss and rage uninstalled. I've been playing more Soulsborne and learnt the importance of timing and dodging. 7 years later I decided to gave this game another attempt, and I was able to beat the main game in under 40hrs. One of the best Soulsborne out there. Graphics looked way ahead of its time. Even though the Senkoku theme is overdone by Japanese games it's still fine given this is more of a fantasy driven story and most of the enemies are demons. I liked the fast pace sword action and unlike the OG Souls games you can't really do tank or mage builds to cheese the bosses. What I didn't enjoy: - Gear system is loot-shooter style - Parry playstyle is locked behind skill tree and you only unlock the expanded timing window later on (trust me even with this the parry window is a lot shorter than dodge IF) - Some of the post game side missions where you fight 2 bosses at the same time are still impossible for me.
