About This Game

Star Realms has gone insane! Introducing Cthulhu Realms! Are you zany enough to play the crazier and creepier cousin of Star Realms?

Download and play today to find out why Cthulhu Realms is so crazily addictive!

How to Play the Game:
In Cthulhu Realms, each player tries to drive their opponent insane or have more sanity than their opponents when the deck runs out.

Each player starts the game with a small deck comprised of initiates, goons and followers. Five cards from the deck form a row of available cards on the table; with more than two players, place three available cards between each pair of players.

Each turn, you start with five cards in hand, playing those cards in order to put locations into play, boost your own sanity or reduce that of others, collect conjuring power to acquire new cards, and remove cards from the game. You can use the power of your locations once each turn. At the end of your turn, discard any cards still in hand and all entities and artifacts that you played.

If you lose all of your sanity, you're out of the game. If you're the only one at the table who's still sane, you win. Otherwise, the game ends when the deck runs out and whoever has the most sanity wins.

Unfortuately, there isn't a neutral option. The game is pretty fun, once you figure out the mechanics. but absolutely zero effort was put into campaign mode. You get 8 lousy scenarios, and for an extra $5, you can get the "full" game with 8 more for a total of 16. That's it. You also have the option of replaying them in hard mode, or playing the AI on Easy or Hard mode in a straight up battle with no modifiers. Whee. Even if they didn't bother to throw in different cards, there should have been at least 3 to 4 times as many scenarios, with at least a few changes in level-specific modifiers to spice things up. One modifier in the game prevents you for buying purple cards, another makes Initiates cheaper for everyone, or the AI gets all card prefilled prerequisites. All this code is already in place, the only thing they would have needed to do is switch it around every few levels. It wouldn't have been that difficult to make the game significantly longer. As it it, it feels unfinish...

Save your money. Save your time. While I loved this game, the STEAM version just DOES NOT WORK online. You can have an experience playing against IA, but forget about challenging a mate, forget about challenging people online. Yeah, even if you paid for that. Interface gives headaches, with constanty moving in and out from the cards. There's no alert when (if ever...) a game starts, if you manage to start a game it will disconnect a dozen times in a round. I don't blame the obviously underpaid developers here. But honesty, these mistakes are expected from newbies.

Basically remake of Star Realms with a new settings. Gameplay is the same. Even cards are almost the same. Nice pictures and graphics, but... Difficult to play. Get tired of these animations pretty soon. Basically, I don't want to have these zoom in/zoom out animations just to look at some details on cards (and I have to zoom in because it is difficult to view card details). Couldn't find easy way to attack opponent (with something like double click) - don't want to zoom in opponent to attack him. Terminology is also a bit confusing: conjure power, sanity. And most important - key things on cards almost not visible on these colored cards. These items don't have any kind of solid background. So, I have to spent quite some time to understand what card is doing, instead of plaing game. Symbols also not really well developed. +health and -health look the same - same picture of head with brain, but font color is different. Nah, in star realms this idea of having three sections (on play, o...

To be honest, I only really play this on my phone. It's still great though, especially for a Lovecraft enthusiast. Tickles my Cthulhu.

To anyone who enjoys H.P. Lovecraft, this game is a GEM. Almost every one of his works is represented in this game. From "The Shadow over Innsmouth" to the Whately Family, the "Terrible Old Man", and you know Cthulu is there. Nyarlathotep. P{nakotic manuscripts! Of coursed the Necronomicon is there!. All the cards are done BEAUTIFULLY. All of it as an homage to Lovecraft. And all of it conveying the seriousness of which he wrote, while being absolutely lighthearted and comical. Movies based on his work, and most video games, FAIL to convey the horror, or are just so badly done that you can't take away anything but how bad the movie or game is. Sooo many modern horror writers will cite Lovecraft as an inspiration. The card art here is awesome. The subject matter is accurate. The narrator is amazing in his timing and humor. Well written, well put together all around. 5 stars. 10 if you are a true fan of H.P. Lovecraft. If the man had a sense of humor at all, I think he'd laugh ...

Really fun and addictive. Only the backround animation seems a bit hard on the memory.

Cthulu Realms is entertaining and a creative modification of the Star Realms base. I think i still prefer the simplicity of Star Realms over CR but very much enjoy both.

Description does not state that you need to create a special account for the game. No mention that it maxes at 2-players.

Love the theme. Good mechanics. A bit minimal on text, so it may take a while to learn the symbols if you're new the game.
