honestly? maybe one of the best game series ever. underrated gem i wish it was appreciated more.
Appreciate the game for what it is, and not what you think it should be, and you will have a good time. This review is written after my second playthrough, and the first time I *HATED* the entire series, but as I’ve got older, I’ve appreciated it more and more. 999 < ZTD <<< VLR IMO. I will keep spoilers to a minimum. I recommend not looking up anything and going in 100% blind as the twists and turns are what you are paying for. There are two games in this collection, 999: Nine hours, Nine persons, 9 doors and Virtues Last Reward. 999 is split into two different sections, the novel section and the puzzle sections. The puzzles are fun but simple. Nothing is too complicated, and as far as I know almost nothing is on a timer, so for the most part its a fairly relaxing ride gameplay-wise. Keep a pen and paper around and search everything. But this is standard for the genre, and nothing new. 999 starts with Junpei being kidnapped by a person in a mask, and waking up in what appears t...
As a package this is a steal for what you are getting, trust me if you ever wanted to get into the Zero Escape series this is the best way to do it as you are simply getting the two best games in the series. This was also my second playthrough of both games which as normal it was quite an easy 100% but regardless it's simply some of the best storytelling i've experienced in any medium please give it a go if you have any sort of interest.
one of those, once in a lifetime game experiences. playing both games fresh was something i can never have again.
Genuinely one of the best video game experiences ever. 999 might be one of my favorite video games I've ever played! Definitely worth playing if you love puzzles, visual novels, and
mind bending twists.
.
I thought I hated VNs and escape-room type stuff until I played this game. Great writing and extremely fun and creative puzzles!
I played the 2nd and 3rd game on DS about ten years ago and I finally got around to playing the first one this year. I had a great time, made me want to replay the rest of the series.
This game is amazing, W characters, W story, W multiple ends, W plot twists. Never sleep on Spike Chunsoft!!!
One of the best sci-fi/mystery visual novels! 999 is the best game of the series and really sets up the other two games. It has a stellar ending and a really nice mystery. I don't know why but this tone of the game really creeped me out and had me on edge the whole game! VLR expands on the escape room scenario and introduces really interesting characters and twists. It is a LOT more grindy, it took me 53 hours to get past all of the routes/paths. I really loved Phi and the AB game. Plus, this one has a easy/hard mode which helps out because I found these puzzles to be much harder than the other two games. Overall, this series is one of the best mystery vn's and actually taught me a lot about scientific theories/thought experiments (and honestly math) so I really recommend it!
