About This Game

Welcome to a grim dystopian future.
A totalitarian State controls every aspect of private and public life.
Laws are oppressive. Surveillance is total. Privacy is dead.

You are the State-installed manager of an apartment building. Your daily routine involves making the building a sweet spot for tenants, who will come and go. However, that is simply a facade that hides your real mission...

Your primary task is to covertly watch your tenants and eavesdrop on their conversations. You must BUG their apartments while they're away, SEARCH their belongings for whatever can threaten the authority of the State, and PROFILE them for your superiors. You must also REPORT anyone capable of violating the laws or plotting subversive activities against the State to the authorities.

You are a cog in a totalitarian machine with your own family who also has needs. Do you cling to your humanity and cover up your tenants? Or do you survive by staying loyal to the regime? The choice is yours.

You can report the suspicious activities of a father but orphan his children. Or you can withhold the details about his illegal activities and give him a chance to make things right? Or you can blackmail him to earn something your family.

As you play the game, you'll interact with many characters and complete dozens of quests. You'll also make decisions that will affect the way the story unfolds. This will lead to one of several game endings - the ending you have earned!

[H3]You’re hired to manage an apartment building, and suddenly someone says: “By the way, spy on your tenants and report them to the government, or else.” Welcome to a world of bureaucracy, paranoia, and moral dilemmas, where even a cup of coffee can be a crime. You’re a bureaucrat with keys to every door and the power to see everyone’s life on a silver platter. Gameplay is a mix of simulator, stealth, and drama: spy on tenants, gather evidence, decide who to frame and who to spare. Sometimes you think: “Am I even human or just a secret agent from hell?” The world is ruthless: neighbors with secrets, laws you can break without realizing it, and constant pressure—do the “right” thing or lose your job, freedom, or conscience. The dark humor comes from the fact that every choice is a tiny moral disaster, and the consequences are often funnier than they are scary. Verdict: if you want to feel like a tiny evil god in your own world, where every action is a moral trap,...

This game will make you question your ethics, your life choices, and whether your daughter really *needs* medicine. Dark, addictive, and disturbingly fun.

Beholder is a masterpiece. Tons of difficult choices, and a great world that has you feeling immersed the whole time. You play as Carl Stein, a man in his mid 40s who has a wife, daughter and teenage son. You are tasked with being the landlord, and beholder of an apartment building. The state gives you constant tasks for you to complete, but so does your family, tenants, and various other third parties. I've truly never played a game that's made me feel like Beholder has. The game has a perfect balance of keeping you busy, but not busy enough to notice what's going on around you. If you haven't played it, please do. It goes on sale, but it's worth the full price.

Great atmosphere, I think nowadays the story is a bit predictable considering how many games where you play as a kind of government servant in an authoritative state, but I think it was great for its time when there weren't as many of these games yet.

Mechanically repetitive to be sufficiently boring without enough of a quality story to make all the clicking and searching through 8 objects per room over and over worth it

Good game, if you want to buy it I would recommend buying it when its on some of its large sales which it occasionally has.
