About This Game

What twists the mind of an ordinary human into a serial killer?

Assigned to the Serial Crimes Unit, Agent Ethan Thomas must answer this question, and bring the worst of society to justice. His solve rate is the best in the bureau....perhaps too good.

While investigating the growing list of serial killers, Agent Thomas concludes that something is twisting the bodies and souls of those that society has left behind. The homeless, addicted and deranged are rising from the city’s underbelly and committing mindless acts of violence. Could there be an unseen connection between the increasing brutality of the latest serial killings and the increasing crime rate? This question is pushed to the forefront after Agent Thomas is framed for the murder of two police officers. Now he must solve the murders to stop the killings, and exonerate himself from the crimes of which he is accused.

As FBI agent Ethan Thomas, you rely on sharp instincts and sophisticated forensic tools to investigate crime scenes, collect evidence, and find clues that will lead you to the killers. With danger lurking in every shadow, you need whatever weapons you can find to stay alive. If you run out of bullets, you’ll have to fight with a fire axe, shovel, pipe, two-by-four, or whatever you can pry from the environment around you. You’ll need to make sure nothing stops you as you try to uncover exactly who...or what is behind the grisly killings plaguing the city.

Condemned: Criminal Origins is a classic first person horror game that still holds up today. Its gameplay is fun, if a bit repetitive and a bit challenging. The graphics have aged a bit, but not so much as to make the game unplayable. The horror aspects are still effective and the story is interesting to follow along. My only real complaint is that the sequel, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, is not listed on Steam for purchase. Hopefully one day that changes as I much preferred its combat system.

Sadly, I cannot recommend it to people on modern hardware. While the game itself is a classic, I'll have to give this version, specifically, a thumbs down. This is going to be hardware specific, but on modern machines, it's completely unplayable in its current state - at least it was for me. When I first booted up the game, I was getting around 250-ish fps (which in of itself seems pretty low, considering its age), but it would then gradually get lower and lower until it would hover around 30-40 fps, and when moving around, it would drop even lower. I also experienced visual and auditory glitches.

The game is fairly dated and could benefit from a remake/remaster. Still enjoyed it more than most modern slop games. Make sure you check PC Gaming Wiki for a link to install an upscaled texture pack and fixes. Also read on the Nexus page for the texture mod to delete some problematic files.

Really amazing horror game, pretty unacceptable PC port, however this helps with frame rate and there are other mods to make it very enjoyable on modern hardware. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYpVEXYcs_Y

Played through the first two chapters and got bored. The game is very generic. There's not a lot that makes it stand out from other action horror games. The taser was a cool function, ill give it that, but otherwise it didnt have anything unique or special.
