About the Game

Colonize Mars and discover her secrets, with minimal casualties.

Welcome Home! The time has come to stake your claim on the Red Planet and build the first functioning human colonies on Mars! All you need are supplies, oxygen, decades of training, experience with sandstorms, and a can-do attitude to discover the purpose of those weird black cubes that appeared out of nowhere. With a bit of sprucing up, this place is going to be awesome!

Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.

There will be challenges to overcome. Execute your strategy and improve your colony’s chances of survival while unlocking the mysteries of this alien world. Are you ready? Mars is waiting for you.

Main Features:

Building on a planet not fit for human life challenges you to build a smart, functional colony. Bad planning isn’t about traffic jams, it’s about survival of your colonists. You really don’t want rolling blackouts in a city constructed in a place without oxygen.

Each colonist is a unique individual with problems and strengths that influence the needs and behavior of the other colonists. Things can get really interesting if your chief scientists develops alcoholism after one too many long nights in the lab.

Retro-futuristic super structures housing colonists, factories and commercial buildings with their own “neighborhood personality.” Create colonies that value science over everything else, while tired workers drink their pay away at a local bar, or attempt a utopia among the stars.

Inspired by the classic sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, Surviving Mars holds many secrets. During each playthrough players may encounter one of Mars’ individually crafted mysteries. Uncovering these secrets might bring your colony great fortune, or terrible ruin. What is that sphere that manifested itself outside colony HUB B, and is it friendly?

Combine static and random research through experimentation, which allows for a different experience for each journey through the game. Attain new scientific breakthroughs by exploring the uncharted terrain of Mars's surface.

A sleek, modern take on the bright futurism of the 1960s. A time of exploration and adventure.

Craft your own fantastic buildings, parks or even a mystery to share through Surviving Mars’s extensive and convenient modding tools. Share your finest creations with the community to build the perfect society.

Paradox is anti-consumer. Do not support this publisher or developer. Instead of fixing existing bugs, Paradox is releasing a completely separate but nearly identical fixed version of the game with all DLCs. They are effectively charging for bug fixes and then removing the original buggy version from the Steam Store.

You want to make me buy the game a second time for an update? How is this even allowed?

Fun at first, but they really messed up with some of the expansions, that are way too expensive and then went ahead and completely abandoned the game. Now a few years later, they announced a remaster of this game with 2 reworked DLCs for 40€. Owners of this game will have to pay 20€ for it. Ridiculous.

DO NOT BUY! This game is fun but bugs grow more and more persistent as you play, if you have bought and installed DLC this becomes even more evident, painfully so really. Rather than fix these issues for players, so they can enjoy the game and DLC they purchased, Paradox Interactive knows you'd much rather pay $20 for the remaster; i.e. a $20 patch that fixes the game to a hopefully working state, a game and DLC you've ALREADY PAID FOR! TL;DR: - You buy semi-buggy game. - You buy DLC for game, and it becomes practically unplayable due to bugs. - Dev. abandons game and DLC in extremely buggy state. - Dev. offers to remove bugs for you if you buy $20 remaster.

Don't buy this game, Dev has abandoned it and is selling the same game with a new name and they are including all the DLC for this game with the new game, so if you bought all that DLC they thank you for your donation to their trust fund. I expect them to abandon the new game in a few years same as this one.

I love when publishers/devs relaunch the same game and give all the dlcs for free, when I paid 100+ for all the dlcs already, and they only give a 20$ discount. Thanks paradox... Don't buy this if you want to get Surviving mars, wait for the relaunch, or just don't get it, I can't recommend a studio that will do this to it's community

"Relaunched" is a paid patch for fixing stuff that should be fixed for free.

Good game, but DON'T BUY due to NEWER REMAKE of the 2018 version. You will WASTE MONEY for INFERIOR version instead of getting far SUPEROIR one contains all DLCs and new content (Surviving Mars: Relaunched). ======================================================================= WHAT IT IS? WHY THIS HAD MIXED REVIEWS? It's a good simcity like game where you manage and maintain one of the first colony on Mars. It has charm and calm moment, and the game can turns into a scenario where you hold on to the last resources to keep your colony survive and thrive. Perfect balance that hooked me up and I have many GOOD and also BAD moments with this game. Long answer: I had a bittersweet relationship with this game. This game was first original developed by Haemimont, later contract expired so they moved on to other projects. Paradox was being a dirty cheap and hired amateur team (Abstraction) to develop new DLCs, leading to massive bugs that BREAKS THE GAME. I had boycotted th...
