Plot has nothing to do with gameplay, you're basically just doing chores with basically no stamina, so racist the devs tried covering their asses with a "dont take it too seriously lol" disclaimer at the beginning (which is NOT an excuse) and the "humor" is just penis jokes and even more racism.

About This Game
NONLINEAR STORY WITH MULTIPLE ENDINGS
Someone framed you and no one gives a rat’s ass about this but you. Turn every stone in this city and find out who did that. The further you investigate the more missing puzzles you’ll find, but be careful. Some things should never be brought to daylight.THE ESSENCE OF '80 COP SHOWS
Have you ever dreamed of being one of the heroes of cop movies? Of course you did, like we all. Now you have a chance! Be sexier than Sonny Crocket and tougher than Dirty Harry. And if witty comebacks won’t work, you can always do some old school ass kicking. It’s ’80s after all!THE HUMOR THAT YOUR MOM WOULDN'T APPROVE
Be sarcastic. Be gloomy. Be whatever you want. There are thousands of things in this world you can laugh at, and even more you shouldn’t, but who cares. It’s a jungle out there baby, and sometimes you just need something to release the stress.Screenshots

Edgy jokes aside, with some being more jarring than others, I just did not find the gameplay loop that fun. Your main priority is hitting a vehicle ticket quota while passively continuing the story and engaging with side crimes (robberies, prostitution etc). Maybe the story resonates with some more than others but it was not nearly engaging enough to continue walking back and forth along the same single street block.
Kelly's sprite got stuck and stopped moving after less than 30 minutes of playing. From Steam threads it happens a lot and there's no active support for the game anymore. Also very racist towards the Black community - if you're going to be "authentic" to the era then why do the Italians not get the same? You're constantly arresting Black people because of course they're doing all the crimes... /s and there's also a sprite of a Black person walking around EATING A WATERMELON. Urgh.
Beat cop is a pixel-art, point-and-click adventure game with strong emphasis on time management. It follows Jack Kelly, a New York detective turned into… Well, beat cop. During one of his interventions he prevented some thieves from barging into the Senator house and stealing some stuff, which he initially failed, because thugs stole diamonds from the place, for which our protagonist was wrongly accused. Now, he has only 21 days to discover the truth, clear his name and expose some dark shenanigans hiding in the shadows. All of this accompanied by hilarious plot lines, colorful characters and some wacky, over the top dialogues. When I bought this game I expected some old school adventure game, similar to maybe an early Police Quest. Turns out, I was wrong. Beat Cop is basically a buddy cop tv drama turned into a game. Don’t expect something serious, something deep and dark. There are a lot of jokes here and even more absurdity instead of some drama and real life problems. The g...
I tried to take their disclaimer of "this is accurate to the time period, do not take it too seriously" at face value. However, the overwhelmingly obvious racism towards the black community was unacceptable and the Italian characters did not receive the same treatment, not that either is excusable. I felt so uncomfortable with this dynamic that I requested a refund and DO NOT recommend this game to anyone, except the KKK.
Sometimes humorous, but dull, monotonous, and glitchy. I didn't feel like replaying it to see other endings.
I get they're trying to portray a certain period in our history, but I couldn't stomach the racism. Game also breaks pretty easily. Bought this game for practically nothing and this is the first time I've wanted a game refunded just so it's not in my library.

Funny writing and dialogue. Worth playing for a few hours if you can get it on sale.
Fun. Pixel Art. Wild shit happens. Funny interactions. Overall pretty decent game, could've been better.
