About This Game

Father´s Island is a mystical, surreal visual novel with a B-Movie twist in a 3D open world, where the player has to solve the mystery of his own wrongful conviction 5 years earlier. An abandoned island with buildings, structures and relics, wildlife and strange machinery has to be explored while being haunted by memories from the past.

ATTENTION: Please do not purchase unless your PC meets the minimum specs. Even then you will experience quite long loading time before the journey begins. We will keep optimising the game, but right now the minimum specs are required to play smooth on "low" GFX settings and can result in 5+ minutes of loading time at the start.

 • Huge, open, living world to explore
 • Dozens of buildings and structures
 • Dynamic soundtrack reacting to players mood and surroundings
 • 4 different endings
 • Hours of video-, audio, on-screen storytelling

Intro, in the player character´s words:

"I am John Richards, and I am innocent. I spent the last years in the Providence state prison for a crime I hadn´t committed. Armed robbery and assault, Christmas eve 2009, a convenience store right outside the town where I used to live. Hell, I was a high school teacher then, and yeah, I didn´t earn much, but robbery? No . I spent the night 80 miles away in my cabin, my private retreat for holidays, working on exams and exercises for my pupils. Alone. A pretty bad Alibi, especially as they had me on tape. Not only my face, clearly visible, hard to mistake for another ones, they had also my DNA all over the place..."

5 years later, recently released from prison, John Richards starts to explore an island along the coast-side of New England. A priest had disclosed its location to him, pointing out that there he will find all the answers he is looking for.

Trying to get hold of whoever had framed him, the player starts his journey to an island where almost everything is familiar, yet there is nothing he can remember exactly. Two square miles of beautiful landscape, strange architecture, abandoned buildings and structures, mountains, forests and even small lakes are waiting to be examined - while fighting the demons of the past coming as nasty flashbacks and buried memories.

Are you really sure you are alone out here?

Well, I've played through it now, and overall i'm pleased with my purchase. It's not perfect, but then again what game ever is perfect? Are there things I don't like about it? Sure, the lighting isn't what I would choose, it's far too "orangey" and makes many of the entities look grainy to me. It's a little too "open" in parts, there's quite a few areas where you can bye-pass mechanics completely, "oh I need a key do I?" .. "nah i'll climb this hill here instead" .. etc. To me in a story driven game your character needs to be directed by the story and the map a little more, sometimes it's not clear where to go and you can end up going around in circles. The voice acting is a little over acted for my liking, and the Chroma key work just doesn't blend with the game, a video of a real person just seems out of place with the art style of the game in my opinion. My biggest bug-bear is the keys, keys, keys scenario, I see it a lot with indie games, the developers get it stuck in the...

Fancy getting terribly, hopelessly lost in a semi-open world GameGuru map? In a "horror" game with virtually no horror in it? Come on, you know you want it... Not that long ago I actually found myself giving a positive review to a game made with the infamous GameGuru engine; a game entitled Hunted: One Step Too Far. This was a momentous occasion, as every other GG product I'd endured up to that point was utterly effortless, bottom-of-the-barrel dreck. This game - as well as my own tentative dabblings in the engine since - convinced me that halfway-decent products could be developed on this engine, after all. I heard rumours of another GameGuru game that wasn't so bad. That game was Father's Island. It is with a slightly heavy heart, then, that I announce that I cannot, in all good conscience, give this game a thumb-up also; but I do want to commend the dev for making what is easily the second-best GameGuru product I have ever played. Alas, all that ...

Things you can do with $5. You can enjoy a Big Mac and still have enough money left for a small soda. You can rent a couple of movies from Redbox. You can go to the dollar store and buy 5 items. You can go to Goodwill and buy some underwear and socks, or you can light $5 on fire. All of which will be more fun than playing Father's Island. Without a doubt, Father's Island is one of the worse games of all time. I'd rather play Atari 2600's E.T. I've played some bad games in my time but this one takes the cake. Pros: “I'll let you know if I ever come up with one” Cons: Poorly optimized Extremely buggy Transparent story-line Incredibly long load times Missing textures Overlapping textures There are (at times) two narrators speaking at the same time The summary lies about the game The lack of polishing There were several times where the ground just disappeared, making it impossible to proceed. Even the water was gone. The only two things that were left were the trees and the buil...

UPDATE: Even knowing I am still tweaking with the controls at this time to adjust them to how I want them. I have gotten a quick reponse back from the game makers and I truly feel like the game is worth the effort into learning how to tweak the controls I like to be able to play this game. So at this time, I would like to take back my negative review and turn it into a positive one at this time. I am sure that there will be a few things wrong with the game, there always is after all, but the developers deserve the praise and an honest thanks from this end. --------------------------------------- So at this time, I would like to change my negative review that I posted below and change it to the positive review I wrote above. However, I am keeping what I wrote before as I am sure that quite a few people will run into the same mistake as I did and this could help them. (And now, my first review from here, further.) I need to be blunt and honest. This game looks absolutely inte...

Ok, I really wanted to like this game, and I'm guessing that most of the reviews here are made by shemps close to the developer and I can't believe so many people would reccomend this game, but here are some general issues I have with it - - Buggy. Not a surprise for an ameturely made game, but being able to pick up objects through walls? Overlapping dialog? Textures that pop in and out? The game dropping to about 2 fps just because you dared to put your face near green glass? - Terrible writing. It's just...bad. Cheesy. Poorly written. Non-sensical. - Bad acting. So the short video clips that are triggered are poorly acted, but they're actually pretty awesome. As somebody who loved 90s adventure games, which heavily used FMV to propell the narrative, I'm definitely a fan of that part. However, the voiceovers are just awful. I think it may have been the same guy in the FMV videos doing all the voice work, just employing an accent for one and "I just ate glass" for the other. - ...

As a Gameguru user myself, I was very excited to play Father's Island. First thing I noticed was the very calm and nice atmosphere. Tons of work have been put into this game. You can see that at every corner. As far as the story goes - it was definitely a surprise. I like the voice of the character and the one liners he throws at you. Some scenes are quite disturbing - all I say is "the sheep" There are multipe endings wich are very different. The cutscenes are pretty interesting and I like them! The Performance has been improved now and I can say I got 25+ fps at least. That's okay for me, because I know that most part of it is engine related. On the other hand, we have a huge island, filled with insane amount of detail. What I noticed as well are the awesome hills and mountains. I know how the engine works, and I was really impressed with the way the mountains are made. Overall, the game looks pretty nice! Definitely keeps me motivated to see more and explore further. At the botto...

This could have been a very nice game, except that in its current version it is plagued by far too many bugs, making it impossible to enjoy it. It still feels like a beta, not quite ready for prime-time yet. Here are some of the problems I came across: - Loading the game takes a long time, even on my PC (Skylake, GTX980Ti, SSDs, etc.) This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem if it only happened when you start up the game. But if you want to reload a save, or if you accidentally die and you have to reload a save, it reloads the whole damn thing all over again, and you just have to wait, and wait... every time. - Default music volume was too loud and the soundtrack would start at the wrong time, overlapping some voice-overs and causing you to miss some important information. Solution: reload a save, and wait, and wait... - Occasional crash on save. Restart; and wait, and wait... - Occasional crash on load. Restart; and wait, and wait... - Green screen after load. Restart; and wait, an...
