This one hurts on a personal level, folks. When I played Vanquish back in the days — like 2018 maybe — I thought to myself: “what a fun, neat game, I wish they made another one”. It was a really refreshing experience, with over the top action, cool mechanics and interesting setting. But now, I am older, time passed a little and upon revisiting this game I finally understand why we never got a sequel. But first thing first. Vanquish is a third person cover shooter with strong emphasis on mobility and movement, developed by Platinum Games — the same jolly bunch that gave us Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Same with those titles, you can expect utter, unadulterated insanity and bonkers from gameplay. The game tells a story… you know what? There is no story here. Or rather — it is so poorly designed and executed in such a primitive way, that it doesn't matter at all. The premise? Once again the Ruskie were bad, they hijacked the orbital station and attacked t...

Localizers injecting Jesus as a swear word into the English dub when it wasn't present in the original Japanese. This practice is unacceptable and needs to stop.

This is an all timer for me and my go-to game when I feel like playing a 3rd person shooter. A game that I find tends to be misunderstood due to the expectations of the developer that made it's future and previous games. So lets start out with what this game isn't: it isn't a stylish movement shooter, it doesn't have an insane narrative, and the game isn't particularly beautiful visually even if I love the character designs. In those regards it does stick out from platinum's pantheon of early 2010s classics. What it is, in fact, is a cover shooter with regenerating health. Otherwise known as one of the most overdone genres the console generation this came out in. However it's also a reminder that genre saturation means nothing in the face of quality. This is a game that's all about learning the unique mechanics to survive and efficiently take out enemies, and it will force you to learn. It's extremely punishing in terms of moment to moment gameplay, especially on the harder difficulti...

back from when platinum used to actually make games. a fun action romp all around. obvious downside is the story to game ratio : game is relatively short (handful of hours) but story is omnipresent with several several cutscenes. if you don't think it you can just skip them. if money:time value is a concern then just simply grab the game on sale. i think it's a neat little package worth at least thinking about.

This is a really fun third person shooter game from the mind that brought you Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and the underrated God Hand. The game is very short but it's pretty much the definition of all killer no filler--every level and mission is a big set-piece, there is little to no downtime. You can take cover but why bother when you have jet boosters and slo-mo at your fingertips at all times. Put Gears and Max Payne together and pump a bunch of nitrous in the engine-- that's Vanquish.

fun 3rd person movement shooter. game's kinda short, the last boss feels a bit unfair at times and the music feels really lacking, especially if you've already played metal gear rising (same studio) apart from these issus, the game's fun and part of that ps3 era where games had avery hamfisted aproach to plot and feels like an early 2010 time capsule.
