There is something really to be liked about this game. The graphical style and the melancholy music are really lovely. But - in this jaded gamer's opinion there are a few issues that are just too big to ignore. The story is a somewhat saccharine tale of love divided by pressures of work. Okay, I like the idea that a story could be inserted into such a simple puzzle game and it does hold together, but to me it just felt a bit too much. Tug gently at those heart strings if you want to produce an emotional response, don't swing on them like you're Quasimodo. The movement could be frustratingly slow at times and the text message sequences were positively painful. The puzzle mechanic was a really nice idea and I loved the concept, but it was just too simple. For all its imagination, moving towards a glowing star while avoiding badly animated stop things (actually, what were those??) all felt a bit Mario Cart and somewhat out of place in a game like this. Could we not have been looking for...

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game because the content does not justify the price of 16.79€. The puzzle mechanics are interesting as you have to connect separate parts scattered on both sides of a sheet of paper by folding and rotating that paper in certain ways so that your character can move towards the level goal. Yet in my opinion the puzzles fall sort of flat because there is no real difficulty involved. In the vast majority of puzzles the positions of those separate parts make too obvious what you are supposed to do, especially because the options of valid actions are kind of limited. There is a story which I, however, did not really care for, It is about the hardships of a long-distance relationship due to one partner getting a significant job in another city. In particular I was turned of by the quality of the internal struggles both characters face. C'mon, if you make a decision then stick with it and don't constantly whine about it / doubt it over and over again!...

You can see my FULL Stream of A Fold Apart here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/594347439 A Fold Apart is a physics puzzle game where you fold/turn the page to get your character to the goal. The story revolves around two characters (you can decide the GENDER for each) who are in a sudden long distance relationship and their struggles in how to cope with that. THE POSITIVE: - Tells a good short story about a couple's relationship change - Has eye catching artwork - The mechanics of folding and turning are really fun, especially when you do things you weren't suppose to in order to complete the level. THE NEGATIVE: - The current price point is a bit steep. While I did enjoy the game, and have completed it, I am unsure if I can recommend it at the base $20 price. SUGGESTION TO THE DEVS: - Implement a "Custom Map" feature. Let the community create some interesting stages with this! The mechanics are good enough that having a way to create levels using it would be so much fun to d...

I don't like this game, but I respect it. It has big. capital-T Themes that it will stop at nothing to explore, at the expense of fun. The gameplay is intentionally frustrating, riddled with trial and error and puzzles that seem hopelessly out of reach. That's also the point: much like the long-distance relationship of our main characters, this game is confusing and frustrating, and your reward is a few all too brief moments of happiness. That's not the type of thematic consistency I enjoy in my games, but if you're into that sort of thing, you might like it.

A puzzle game with a fun premise bogged down by the incredibly slow control scheme, fairly simple and easy puzzles, and a tired story tied so tightly to the gameplay that it slows down the monotonous process of getting from puzzle to puzzle. More of a story game than a truly good puzzler, so you may enjoy this if that's your speed, but there better examples of that out there.

Honestly a great game. Beautiful, emotional, and a wonderful musical score complement the fun puzzle game play well. The tone, music, and art style are very reminiscent of a Pixar movie. I also love the fact that you can choose the genders of the couple. However, I will echo what others have said and say that $20 is a steep price point for this short game, as it's only 2-3 hours of content. Since the game play is entirely puzzles, I think the replay value is fairly limited. Overall, I'm glad that I bought it and I'm happy to support indie developers, but I'd say wait for a discount, just because it's a short game.

This is a very beautiful and cute game. Although just 5 mins in I'm already crying, its way too relatable for me and my current relationship. I played this with my bf via discord streaming and we're very far apart from each other as well, it pulled all the heart strings for both of us. Even the text messages are very similar! I recommend this to anyone who's in a difficult long distance relationship!

Awful storytelling actually ruins the entire thing. The story is not compelling to begin with: Two snivelers physically separated for a few months wallow in self-pity. The narrative goes full sappy, shallow, becomes nauseating. The urge for skipping quickly arises. But there is so little you can skip. Most of the whining is done while walking, and you have to make them walk yourself. Your participation to this fiasco is imposed. The walking is sedated. A crawl. And because things can always get worse, the storytelling opts for pocket phone conversations. That's right, texting. Not video calls, not phone calls, texting. Because these two jerks, who keep pretending they miss each other so much, are too cheap for a call, I guess ? Texting, the least cinematic device since the invention of power outages. And you have to click to advance the texting too. And because things can always get worse, you also have to choose some of the schlock they type. It's draining and infuriating at the sam...

Any investment in their relationship is dulled by how dumb the two characters are, the core mechanic really isn't that engaging, it can be a bit buggy at times, and movement and interaction speeds are woefully slow. Moving a box or rotating a stage is downright painful.

If you're in a long distance relationship, get in a call with your partner, stream the game and play it together.
