Square's Route

This is a decent puzzle game that tasks the player with guiding a cube around 2D grid-based levels representing a garden, with the aim being to remove coloured 'weeds' by squashing them with matching colour-codes faces of the cube. For a simple mechanic, [i]Square's Route[/i] can get impressively challenging towards the end of its 100 levels, and compelling to try to achieve the 'perfect' minimum-moves completions (though I'm convinced that at least a couple of these are impossible). Although the game does gradually introduce a few new mechanics, such as moving platforms, teleporters and a few types of enemies, it could still benefit from some more variety in these, and many of the enemies move in real time rather than in the turn-based manner of the rest of the game, making them more of an annoyance than a puzzle challenge. The game would also very much benefit from colour-blind assistance options for its later levels, where a couple of the colours used can appeal very similar, and s...

The biggest issues I have noticed is that when you play using a controller, you have a tendency to try to move diagonally since the level is viewed from an angle. this has caused me to accidentally move the wrong way a few times. You still only move the joystick up down left or right, even though your block ends up moving diagonally. Other than that the music is great and the game is a lot of fun.

This is a fantastic little puzzler and an incredible bargain at the price. On first glance I was skeptical, as the cute pixelated graphics and seemingly simple gameplay (directing a cube around an isometric grid) suggested nothing more than a time waster that I'd finish in a couple of hours. No chance! Thankfully, the difficulty curve steps up gradually, eventually becoming rock hard, through the introduction of limited moves, different coloured sides which must be used to squish matching coloured plants, mined explosives, time limits, porcupine cubes that take you out along with other guard sentries etc. Gameplay and controls (arrow keys) are really easy to pick up, but as each level becomes more and more intricate, you need to carefully plan and experiment to solve. Getting past the next level feels really rewarding, while the pop synth soundtrack is also great addition. Can't recommend this game more highly!

Really enjoying the game. Not to easy not difficult.

Fun and progressively morre challenging. Pushed me on spatial thinking anticipating how to get the correct side of a cube at the correct location. A 1-cell Rubik's cube! I appreciate how you can make any level more challenging by going for additional challenges, or you can just complete the level and move on. I hope there is a sequel
