I have not played very much of this game thus far, but from what I have played it seems very clunky. The controls are very, VERY floaty and that alone makes combat almost impossible, and most encounters I just end up running away from the zombie attackers. Music is also a problem, as it just consists of a few very repetitive and bland tracks. There is also a lack of fullscreen. Which is a HUGE issue as I failed to read alot of the text on the screen. The game is not terrible though, the graphics are great and the game would have a good challenge if combat wasn't so terrible, and if the framerate wasn't so bad (I am running an AMD A10 APU and 8GB of RAM, nothing special, but it should be more than capable of keeping a little indie RPG at higher than 30fps, which it fails to do) Overall this game had alot of promise, but is a clunky and utterly disapointing mess. 4/10: Below average.

About This Game

The Game
24 Hours ‘Til Rescue plunges you into dynamic, hand-crafted, city overrun by the undead with one, simple premise: to escape the city alive. Yet, with most of the streets barricaded, all of them teeming with enemies, and with rescue not coming for another 24 hours, the chances of survival are slim to none. If you want to escape you are going to have to head out into the streets, find fellow survivors, scavenge the city for guns, ammo and food, and undertake a terrifying quest that will lead you into the bowels of the infected hospital, through the rat infested sewers, and to the home of the crazy mayor. The world is never going to be the same again!
Features:
- 10 playable characters each with different stats, bonuses, and starting locations within the city.
- Permadeath - When you die, you die! There is a non permadeath mode but high-scores are not saved.
- Crafting - Craft guns and ammo, and cook restorative snacks, from hundreds of lootable items.
- Day and night system with real darkness!
- Looting - From gun shops, through houses, to the mayor's mansion: every building is lootable.
- Time specific events such as characters that die at certain times.
- A truly difficult experience where beating your own high-score is often far more achievable than beating the game.
Warning:
This game is designed to be difficult…. very difficult. It would be almost impossible to complete the game on the first run through, even if you had access to the best characters, best guns, and didn’t play on the default ‘Permadeath’ mode: the story of the city unfolds so that you learn more with each character and with each play through. Dying is part of the game – if that doesn’t appeal, it’s probably best to move on!The characters:
You can start the game as ten different characters, each with different bonuses, skills, and starting locations within the city. However, on your first run through you will only be able to select two of them, the others can be unlocked if you can find them within the city, before they are eaten alive. Some characters are hiding in houses, others in the streets, but the more you find the easier the game becomes, not only because you have alternate starting points but also because when you meet them, they will join you as a companion! The world:
The game is set in a dynamic city where events happen at specific times over the 24 hours. Some things can be done at any time, others within a time limit. This can make the game even more challenging. To make your life easier however the world is jam-packed with lootable items, some of which can be used directly like armour, weapons, and ammo, and others which can be used to cook and craft. There are also special items which can only be found in certain locations (or with certain starting characters) like the fuel siphoner, chainsaw fuel converter, and keys! This game uses the engine of, and is a prequel to, 'Apocalypse Hotel: The Post-Apocalyptic Hotel Simulator!' by Flynnfour Games - Though it shares an engine it is a very different game and is definitely worth a look. Indeed, we liked it so much that we collaberated in making this spin-off!
The quest:
In order to leave the city you are tasked with retrieving a sample taken from patient 0. This will mean a descent into the bowels of the infested hospital. Yet not all is as it seems and you will find yourself buffeted from one mission to another with hardly time to craft more ammo or cook up some health snacks before you find yourself sent off to another location to kill some beastie, fetch some data, or stop the crazy mayor from doing something you’ll all regret!Screenshots
User Reviews
These controls are clunky, I had to fight with them just to loot the starting house. Then when I went on the street I was swarmed with zombies that I could not avoid or turn fast enough to shoot back at. Overall I feel like burning $4 would have been more fun.
Ok well the game is finally working but now when i go to use the baseball bat the game gives me a pop up error saying the baseball bat is not found and when i click ok it ends the session
The game is pretty laggy and i think that is why everyone is complaining about the controlls. I had a error right off the bat when i first tried to start the game and it crashed. Upon verifying integrity no other issues. The Invintory system is horrible and there is no real way to shut off the godawful 90's 4 tone music that is blaring. Beware ye who think they are brave for this game is not all that good.
For a quick read: I cannot recommend this game because it is not an enjoyable game. I love challenging games and I love to test my skills in whatever any manner. This game, as what I have experienced, is hard only because it requires a player to be lucky enough to win a series of lottery, and know what is going to happen at certain time period. Thus, it is 100% not a delightful sight: on the contrary, it is a torturing, boring, and terrifying experience. If you are trying to find a game to test your skill, DONT buy this game. If you are trying to find a game to scare your shit out, DONT buy this game, you should only buy this game if you are boring enough to test your luck with terrible graphics and controls. Below is my specific experience: Long story short. After about 20 tries (was really a torture since I never die because I make a mistake, I only die if I enter a new area and got surrounded by 3-4 zombies which makes me cannot move, and these zombies attack 3 times a second an...
Short Answer: Bug filled mess at it's best, with enemies that don't telegraph anything. Long Answer: The single worst game I have ever experienced. This is below even the Bubsy games, at least I could finish those. Every enemy in this game has instant attacks, the game is grid based, except when it isn't and the delineation isn't clear. The concept is interesting, but the execution is so poor that ramming your head into your desk until you forget about this game is a better use of your money.
this game isnt as bad as people say it is, with the exception of the bat not being properly set and the grenade being a death trap gamble. As far as the difficulty, the dev does warn you at the beginning and multiple times on the store page, it is very hard, but keeping that in mind i suggest playing insane mode for like a few hours then switching over to hard mode, it makes it much more easy. Try not to kill anything unless you have to, or its a safe (wont get you cornered) kill, risk in this game can get you killed easily, so avoid it, however if you are going to take risky moves, may i suggest skating diagonally, for some reason this reduces the chance the zombies will hit you, as long as your quick enough. If you are going to kill, make sure you use a weapon that only takes 1 to 3 shots, I.E. a shotgun or some assault rifles, that being said there is a level up system to increase damage and health, and plenty of food to make healing items, which evventually you will have a ton...
Terrible game with no standing out points, do not buy.
Yeah... I hate to hop on the negative review bandwagon, but this game isn't very well done at all. The controls are awkward and clunky, enemies will always respawn if you leave a room, even right next to the door you came back from for unavoidable damage, and sometimes your movement keys or attacks don't even register so you end up running right past items you meant to pick up or take damage unnecessarily because you can't walk around a door corner. Definitely not my cuppa.
Good idea for a game, but it felt poorly executed.
