When mind and machine become one – what will remain of humanity?

Berlin, 2048 – The world is on the brink. Lack of resources, illnesses caused by polluted air and water, crime on the rise, war. Governments and companies promise remedies through technological progress. Drones and humanoid robots replace humans in the public sector, everything is interconnected, surveillance has become omnipresent.

Richard Nolan is one of the few journalists openly criticizing this development. When he wakes up in hospital after an explosion and finds that his wife and son have mysteriously vanished, Richard realizes: he and his family have become more than just bystanders in a storm of rivaling ideas pertaining humankind’s salvation between dystopian reality and digital utopia. Instead, they find themselves right at the center of it.

This domestic drama evolves into a thriller about a worldwide conspiracy, which at its core aims to determine the fate of humanity: Could a perfect digital utopia be the answer? A virtual paradise not affected by material needs and quarrels? Could a super-AI be our savior – or would it simply declare us as dispensable since it could not be taught the value of philanthropy?

What will the world look like after this storm, what will remain of humanity?

State of Mind is an ambitious narrative-driven adventure that dares to tackle some of the most pressing existential questions of our age: identity, consciousness, transhumanism and the blurred boundaries between reality and simulation. Developed by Daedalic Entertainment, it offers a slow-burning, cerebral experience that rewards patience and introspection over action and spectacle. Set in a sleek yet melancholic vision of Berlin in 2048, the game introduces Richard Nolan, a jaded journalist recovering from a traumatic accident, only to find his life unraveling in increasingly surreal ways. The story soon branches into a dual-reality narrative, involving another character in a utopian virtual world, raising unsettling questions about memory, agency and what it truly means to be human. Visually, State of Mind is striking. Its low-poly art style may initially seem minimalist, but it quickly proves to be a deliberate aesthetic choice that reinforces the themes of fragmentation and d...
A thought provoking dark dystopian adventure
A very interesting experience with some really interesting concepts. The art style is compelling and really quite special. The plot is engaging and sometimes very moving. The protagonist could be a little less coarse and bitter, IMO. Some scenes
The Lydia reveal and the drone sequence in the clinic especially
gave me goosebumps. The finale is a little lacking and less well thought out.
Why isn't the body of the hacker used?!
It takes some inspiration from groundbreaking sci-fi authors (Asimov, Dick, Heinlein), but has some good points on its own. The execution of the game mechanics is a little lacking and sometimes clunky, but doesn't hinder progress that much. It's not on a AAA budget after all. Achievements can be a little annoying and sometimes feel contrived. Two are very picky and require replaying a part of the game. Replayability is here but has some issues. Large cutscenes c...

It really feels like an interactive movie type. The mystery plays out slowly but with good pace. DONT WATCH THE TRAILERS THOUGH
Kind of surprised that if you watched the trailer it kind of ruins the mystery build up though.
If you like story rich ones, then this is definitely for you.
