About This Game

Home to the world's greatest minds, GATE operates a global network of secretive research laboratories, spanning every field of scientific study - and the realms beyond.

As a GATE employee you extend the bounds of human knowledge, and seek to explain the unexplainable - including anomalies and paranormal entities: from gravity-distorting artifacts to supernatural creatures with an unbridled instinct for violence. Safety, security, and secrecy are of the utmost importance… usually.

After a catastrophic containment breach, your workplace has become a cosmic battle zone: anomalous entities are on the loose, enemies from other dimensions are invading via portals, and an arcane military sect - known as The Order - is targeting personnel and entities indiscriminately, aiming to seize artifacts and put an end to the chaos.

Containment procedures have failed and help isn’t on the way. Stranded miles beneath the surface, it’s up to you and your fellow scientists to band together, plan your escape, and make this underground complex your new home - for now.

Abiotic Factor brings a 90’s sci-fi twist and rich character progression to the multiplayer open world survival crafting genre. Up to 6 players can choose their PhDs, build their scientist, gear up, and explore a massive subterranean complex, filled with supernatural artifacts, transdimensional foes, and science experiments gone awry.

Between alien threats hunting their next meal, trigger happy soldiers, and the world’s most advanced robotic security forces attacking personnel working overtime, there’s no shortage of danger. As a scientist, fighting isn’t your forte, so you’ll need to put your PhD to work to outwit your opponents: craft ingenious and outlandish tools, weapons and gear, from simple nets and wooden bats to laser-cannons and elaborate traps - everything your big science brain can muster!

Make yourself at home - you’re here for the long haul. Scavenge resources from vacant offices and empty labs, raid vending machines, and steal company property to build a new base of operations as you explore the facility. When it’s time for a change of scenery, pack up your belongings and move them across the facility using handcarts, forklifts, SUVs, teleporters, and more.

Don your lab coat and earn your PhD: from Phytogenetic Botanist to Defense Analyst and Archotechnic Consultant (and many, many more), each with its own advantages essential to survival. Combine traits and skills, then level up to earn perks and abilities with your fellow scientists to forge a formidable scientific force.

Working at GATE may have been a dream job, but dying here wasn’t part of your five year plan. Explore this massive underground facility as well as many worlds beyond and take full advantage of the most advanced technology unknown to mankind in this interdimensional sci-fi adventure!

Disclaimer : Played through the game solo only and reached the end in 60h. I don't think i've ever seen a game that blend genres that well. As so many pointed out, it's Half Life 1 aesthetics meets Subnautica survival mechanics and the SCP universe. It's immersive, highly customisable and highly addictive. Just one more supply run, one more base to build, one more minute (hour ?) exploring this giant interconnected facility you find yourself stranded in. I'd recommend going blind, as the horror of the unknown and wonder of discovery is what hooked me in right from the start, then kept me locked in for those wonderfull 60h. To me, Abiotic Factor is to survivals what Baldur's gate 3 is to CRPG, or Elden Ring to souls-like : It's the new gold standard against which any future survival will be compared to from now on. It is THAT good. I can't recommend this game enough.

I just realised I never wrote a review for Abiotic Factor. It's kind of hard. The game is utterly insane. It's brilliant and crazy, just like most of the scientists and science in it. It's half-life, but it's also survival builder. It's a stealth FPS, but it's also tactical melee bash. It's a lore-based storytelling adventure, and it's also complete nonsense. 11/10. More, please.

I never leave reviews, but this game was so good it made me write one. Despite being a nightmare for really getting into games after playing WoW for 20+ years I find it really hard to break into other games and always find myself going back to some variation of WoW, or playing the old Fallout games. Took a chance with this and I am glad I did. One of the best games I have ever played, so much so, I recently purchased 2 of their 'Gate' logo mugs from their merch website because I really love the game and wanted something extra to display on my Computer desk. If anyone is reading this and has doubts on buying it, this is a sign to take a chance on it like I did, and you wont be disappointed.

Agree with the other negative reviews. Boring second half that is completely uninspired and grindy. Walking around everywhere 30 times is not enjoyable gameplay, that is a chore. Putting in vehicles in a map that was inherently not designed for them is a bandaid fix at worst, if driving wasn't also completely terrible. Enemies are just reskins of each other with inflated hp pools. Bleeding me every second hit is not a fun mechanic either. Combat feels absolutely atrocious. Sharp melee is your only option and the laser katana is so much better than any other option that you would be stupid to use anything else. Making blunt as useless as it is is questionable and feels like an oversight, somehow. Gunplay, if you can call it that, is very unsatisfying. Unless you have very high gun skills they feel really atrocious. I am sure this could've been balanced better than making your character have Parkinson for the first 10 hours. Most guns also do comically low damage by the last third of ...

I feel bad giving this a negative review because there's a lot of great content in this game and the world design is excellent, genuinely the best of any game I've played, but the bad stuff is REALLY bad and drags the whole game down as a result. I was originally going to leave no review, the closest thing to a 'neutral' review Steam has, but the poor quality of 1.0 changed my mind. 1.0 is largely bad, feels unfinished and does not justify the game's price increase at all. I was expecting the update to address the issues I had with the game pre 1.0, but they've largely been ignored or even made worse in some cases. Some parts are so bad that it genuinely makes me question whether the developers even know what the fuck they're doing. -The devs recently released a 'hotfix' that caused random doors to just not open making certain areas inaccessible as well as breaking laser weapons so they can't be charged. I need to kill a large amount of the most powerful enemies in the game for one o...

DeepField took OG Half-Life, and shoved an entire survival game into it. The facility is enormous, and you can base basically anywhere with a power socket. If you're playing multiplayer, each member of the team can pick a role to focus on, meaning that everyone can find their own enjoyable niche - solo is still great, but it can be tedious having to do everything yourself. Onwards to Science!

If you're a fan of survival games and huge research facilities, this game has a big chance to click for you. You probably wont like it if you hate exploring. My best advice when playing this game would be collect EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down, chances are you will need it in one way or another, and try to craft everything this game offers you. It won't be all items, but most of them have one use case or more. Also bring a lot of different weapons with you when you can, it will come in handy. I sometimes read player feedback and see players using weak or outright wrong items to deal with the challenge in question. Otherwise, have fun, the game is pretty big and is definitely worth the price. Onward - to science <3 I played this game in both singleplayer and multiplayer (pls help me), and both experiences are pretty fun. I'm not sure about public servers though, it may be full of griefers as far as I'm aware. [spoiler] Now, about the things that in my opinion could be improved in th...

I've been playing this game since back in May of 2024 when the Labs sector was the end game. I've waited with baited breath to see each new sector, immerse myself in the lore, and see where the story goes. I love the gameplay, the graphics, and the general charm. So why the negative review? Spoilers ahead. I'm so pissed that post-shadowgate it's like 99% sequel/DLC bait. Literally the only thing 'answered' is that Cahn/IS-012 has a boss who he's been working for to destroy our world as the next in the chain from a very long line, and presumably this boss is the night lord/whatever reigns in the Security wing (I'm guessing not the Reaper(s)). Oh and a mural and single email explaining the Order's main enemy is the somnivore/the Reaper(s) from Security, so we've at least got some explanation on that but it also doesn't exactly explain the Order's origins? Another question IMO. They also killed Hasta Tria one of my favorite characters, they introduced time travel just to leave it open e...

The "ending" to this game is severely disappointing. I only pray the devs are planning to massively expand on the story, as this does not cut it for the amount of setup the game has up until this point. So many mysteries and loose ends that just feel completely ignored. The first half of the game is great, but I cannot recommend it after playing to completion.
