About This Game

Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.

Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town, deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you’re right in the thick of it.

You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch.

You're following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe.
The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.

Outlast 2 is a standalone horror experience with a heavy atmosphere and intense chases. Its story isnt directly connected to the first game, but it delivers the same terrifying feeling only stronger. A little creepy, but it's mostly just a trial and error running and hiding simulator that gets repetitive.

Instead of one building, you are hunted through a variety of creepy locations like a village, cornfields, and mines. The game looks much better than the first one and does a great job of creating a tense, scary environment. The story is very dark and disturbing, focusing on themes of religious cults and trauma. The larger, more open areas make the chases feel more frantic and desperate. The game has flashback scenes set in a school that are very effective and scary in a different way. You can use your camera's microphone to hear enemies through walls. You have new ways to hide, like crawling on the ground or hiding in barrels of water.

Not as good as the first game, besides the school area you repeatedly go to isn't that interesting. Mental asylum as a location for a horror game is just hard to beat. Now you got some village with monster hillbillies and cultists. Lots of chases in tight spaces that are so numerous they lost their thrill and the special monsters are forgettable. I never had to resort to stealth, it was just running past and looking for the next crevice to cram through or a ledge to grab. Lastly the story doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It's not bad, but just disappointing seeing how the first one refined the Amnesia's formula.

Hard 3.5/10. Bad story, cheap jumpscares. Overall glorified running simulator. Get on sale

Absolute trash compared to the first game, and not even a little bit scary. It felt like playing Dead By Daylight, which is not a good thing.

I just feel like it doesn't really try to capture what made Outlast 1 fun in the first place, even in the areas where it's confined indoor areas like the School it really just isn't that eventful compared to the first game, and nowhere near as scary. I feel like even though people say that the enemy AI is smarter in 2 from my experience they feel just as dumb if not dumber than the enemies in 1, cause in 1 at least the enemies I encountered genuinely ran at me instead of just slow walking just to do the piddliest damage imaginable, probably my difficulty but Normal mode should have had comparable difficulty to Normal in the first game. The only real threat in my opinion was the arrow dudes, but they were just so frustrating to deal with I cannot justify saying anything good about them. Overall, it's a good game but it's not a great game like the first one was, the only real improvement over the first game in my opinion was how movement is handled.

outlast 1, but edgier, less subtle, and incredibly less fun, with poor level design all around. Skip and watch a recap
