About This Game

The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer.
It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn’t alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don’t give up.

Only you can stand up to this.

A lot of this felt like a bit of a re-tread of part 1's story, but with the new revelations and focus on new characters and their relationship to Hinamezawa, we still have a lot of peak to read here. Excited to start part 3

great for learning japanese from zero, try not lose ur sanity tho till it starts to flow most people lose their mental faculties, i myself dont think i will ever be the same, going word by word since the beggining even tho i couldn even read hiragana when i started playing chapter one, now i have passed jlpt n3 when i was around by 1/4 or 2/4 of the chapter 2. now i have finished it and going to chapter 3 probably my level has incresead exponentially ofc i have used some side materials but no grammar books bullshit just japanese youtube visual novels this kinda stuff, within some months i am gonna take jlpt n2 but i am not worried the method works i will def be approved. if u go grammar by grammar kanji by kanji vocabulary by vocabulary without skipping none and searching again no matter how many times needed i am sure u will see progress too, it is tiring but by doing this some hours every day i can asure u is totally possible be far better than jlpt n1 level within 1 or at the most 2...

This one is great. The focus was different and I just loved the music that played in certain parts of the scenario. Great.

Another awesome chapter. Got a lot more info in this one. Both pertaining to Hinimizawa and the individual events of this chapter. I thought 4 separate times "oh the end is now" and the end wasn't now. The ending is clear but also not clear? I'm so confused i can't even say if this or Onikakushi confused me more. If there is one tiny nitpick i can give it's that the chapter end party felt quite lacking. They talked about
Mion and a little about Keiichi
with almost no pushback then finished. It is the chapter 2 end party so it's not the most important thing to ever exist but i wish they talked about more topics or at least gave disagreement against the main topic. The chapter 1 was very good so i'm sure it's a fluke. Maybe ran out of time idk Very happy with this chapter. Cannot wait to play Tatarigoshi and be even even more confused.

While not as strong an arc overall as "Onikakushi", the "Watanagashi" chapter is undeniably a great addition to the overarching narrative of "Higurashi", as it both retains the sharp writing and strong character-building of its predecessor and adds a ton more of its own ideas on top of them to create an all new story with its own unique intricacies, all culminating in a particularly strong finale that leaves you hungering for more. (8/10).

Different from the first one. This chapter sets up up with a massive emotional attachment to the characters, including a new one. If there first one were a horror story, pure horror, I'd compare this to Seven instead.
