About This Game

Visit a quiet town in the Peruvian desert at night searching for spirits and taking photos, then sharing these pictures with locals who free-associate based on them. This game is based on time I spent with a brujo in the desert suburb of Cachiche, a town that was founded by witches during the Peruvian Inquisition. Here descendants of witches still live and continue to practice traditional healing and fortune-telling.

FEATURES
 • Explore a 3D world with ambient sounds, voices and textures from the Peruvian desert, a living environment at night.
 • Use your photography as a means of conversing with non-player characters, revealing what they see as well as what they imagine.
 • See yourself as an outsider, lurking in alleys, eavesdropping on conversations, going where you're not supposed to go.
 • Watch the forces of tourism at work and the conflicts rumbling beneath the surface of a small town.
 • Discover that your camera is not just a passive recorder, but that its act of observation can change the environment.
 • Complete progressively more abstract quests and delusional journal entries.
 • Export and share your photos.

First game of the developer on Steam. Strange small walking simulator. You have a photo camera and make pics of strange things. This you can show a few people and get journel entries and search for new hidden scenes. For people that explore areas its a short fun to see all things like cats, chickens and other stuff. The graphics are not so good, but for a cheap indie game its fine, sound is the same. The end is coming very fast even if you watch every corner, but it has its unique style. I like to support this developer but you should get this game as cheap as possible with discount. Maybe 1 euro worth for achievement hunters. Sadly that there are not much achievements, but i enjoyed it and give personally a 57 %.

This game is WEIRD, let's get that out of the way. But it's so eerie, and the way the camera allows you to shape the narrative, and your perspective, is super neat. Honestly felt myself being drawn in until the very end. (I am writing this review mere minutes after finishing it, heh, it just deserves a recommendation so much.) It's supposedly based on some real places, people, folklore, and events that I'm definitely going to look into later. If you're looking for a spooky and unique experience, check out 1,000 Heads Among the Trees! EDIT: Just wanna acknowledge that a lot of people criticize the execution of this game... And I'll admit it's certainly not perfect. But if you can appreciate something for atmosphere, and if you are willing to compromise having any linear, cut and dry story in favor of a narrative shaped by exploration and personal perspective, then you should be able to enjoy this game.

This is one of those ambitious, small budget video games that fails to impress. While it starts out as an interesting journey it eventually falls short of its promises. But what is this about? Cachiche is a town in Peru known for its spirits. Our protagonist arrives there to find out more of the background story of these ghosts. Gameplay consists of walking around and talking to the townsfolk. Additionally, we are required to take photos from time to time and show these to other people who can comment and provide us with more details. Through our camera we often see things differently. For instance, a dog may appear in skeletal form. In most cases our best bet is to return to the same character called "El Brujo" who knows more about the local witches and can comment on the strange phenomena we see through our device. The game looks ugly. Character models look soo simplistic that they look more like dolls. There are some areas in the countryside where walking through certain areas ac...

This game made no sense. It ran very poorly considering there was little to no textures or mechanics. It was about as spooky as Jared Leto.

This game is not typical, but that is one of its' greatest assets. You find yourself in the South American town of Cachiche, Peru and using a local Brujo as a guide (Brujo means something like Shaman or male witch) you explore this extremely trippy town. The graphics are not super slick BUT the way the graphics are works perfectly with the story. The colors, the feel of the game, all of the way the game is designed, mimics my own experience South of the border, though I didnt meet any male witches with motorcycles, unfortunately ;) I enjoyed that feeling and I am amazed at how well the game was able to trap and capture such ephemeral feelings of being a stranger in a strange land. I had no issues with game play, no stuttering, no walking through walls, sound works perfectly, no problems, nada. The game runs smoothly. I definitely recommend this game for those who like out of the box games which are creative and follow an intriguing story line. 9/10

1000 Heads Among the Trees is an experimental game where you explore a weird town in Peru. Story: You play as a seemingly unnamed man (maybe woman, never really mentioned) who arrives at a small town in Peru named Cachiche. The town was founded by witches and the towns descendants still practice the arts, so you pick up your trusty camera to capture the towns secrets. The story honestly has a cool idea and a nice set up, but the execution is poor to say the least. Most of the notes your characters jots down are just absolute nonsense and barely make any sense, not to mention the characters you encounter just talk about random stuff and the only way I can describe the game is bizarre, but not the good kind. Graphics: 1000 Heads Among the Trees just looks downright awful. The town consists of the same type of buildings copy and pasted over and over again. It makes navigation a pain and with how there's barely any landmarks you can find yourself backtracking back and forth without kn...

Aaron Oldenburg is a developer and media artist who knows that videogames can be a very powerful weapon to mass alienation, but also one of the best medium to convey ideas, and "1,000 Heads among the Trees" is the virtualized proof. Published by KISS ltd on 11 Dec, 2015 -they can be regarded now as some people with a weird catalogue, from shitty anime puzzle games to great masterpieces like Simon Meek's works- it is a fusion between a walking simulator, horror fiction and suspense, similar in some microscopic way to "Layers of Fear" but with less screamers properly said. During the Spanish Inquisition, a lot of women who where accused of being witches moved to Lima, Peru, but not being safe even in the city made them move to the little lost village of Cachiche, Ica. One of the most famous witches amongst them was Julia Hernández Pecho Viuda de Díaz, who cured the stammer of local boy named Fernando Leon de Vivero, who later became a congressman in Lima, and to show his appreciation ...

1000 Among the trees is a pretty good game. Just overpriced and not for everyone. It gives you the freedom to roam around a creepy atmospheric perusian town at night searching for ghosts. With its out of tune bizzare cords that play and strange happenings that happen it makes it a joy to explore the town. It's ominous and near the end I actually did not want to keep playing, because I jsut knew something terrifying was gonna happen. I definently reccomend this game on a sale and if you like creepy games that dont hold your hand throughout the whole story.

Okay. Where do we begin? Let's begin with other reviews of 1000 Heads Among the Trees. There are some positive reviews of those who see it as a "WEIRD" and "TRIPPY" game and some negative ones of those who were coming here to play a horror game and were disappointed, because it didn't scare them. Both of these perspectives lack all the context in the world for this one. Let me be paradoxal here: 1000 Heads Among the Trees is not a game. At least, not in a traditional entertainment-first kind of sense. And least of all it is a horror experience, because it doesn't care a single bit about scaring the audience. What is it then? If you've ever happened to go on an ethnographic expedition to a remote village or small town (no matter what country), you will recognize everything immediately. Small decrepit houses, unfinished constructions, idle locals and that one person of whom there is one in the whole region but who knows more important stuff than all the people o...

What the actual...? Boring walker, the point of which was never made clear to me. Check it out (maybe) if you like this genre and get a key but I wouldn't suggest paying for it.
