Nightdive is a great studio filled with talented people who obviously care about game preservation, and I admire them for what they have done with their releases so far. However, there is just so much wrong with this game on a fundamental level that I don't think it can be saved. The level design is atrocious. Every level feels like a giant, tedious maze to get through. The original Turok game (which Nightdive has also remastered on Steam) is a much better purchase.

If you were a kid in the 90s you dont need a review. For all you whipper snappers out there who like retro games, this is one for you. So come on, pick up your Tek Bow and Plasma Rifle and play one of the best games of the N64 and one of if not the only Native protagonists in video games.
Mmmm Eh... 6/10 Only for the hardcore Turok fans. NightDive did a really solid job with this remaster, but the core game is flawed. A respectable followup to Turok 1; and in certain aspects I think there's some parts that are superior to the first game. Overall though, I think it's an inferior game in contrast. This game has just slightly improved graphics, and a more defined art style. It looks great. The enemy models are much more developed and are more tonally coherent. I also really like the segments where you ride on the Triceratops - really fun. And I think the weapons are much cooler in this game than the first game; especially the bow. When you shoot arrows at something, they stick in and you can retrieve them afterwards. But they just crammed in way too many guns, and not enough ammo for each one. I found myself juggling different guns because I would use them briefly, and they would run out of ammo, so I'd move to the next one and the same thing would occ...
In some ways this is worse than Turok 1, but in a few ways it's better. I like that the story is explained. I like that I can swap between ammo types and not always wasting best ammo first. I like that there are more guns, and I didn't feel like any of them were wasting ammo. I like that enemies aren't constantly spawning in harassing you every second. I like that there are unlockable powers used for traversal to make it feel a bit more metroidvania-like. I loved the dino vehicle section. The main thing that is awful about the game is the level design. It's just chocked full of so many hallways and teleporters that its impossible to make a mental map. And then every teleporter you unlocked displays in the order unlocked, which can display them out of level order. I had to look up walkthroughs because I got sick of wandering. Turok 1 had better levels and it annoys me that we had a major step back on that front. Enemies don't constantly teleport in like before, but they constan...

One of my favorite childhood games of all time. Its a masterpiece I'll play till I grow old and fade away.
Total throwback to my childhood. Good port / update / re skin / whatever you wanna call it. Worth the price. Get a guide 'cause the levels are tricky to nav.
I was pleasantly surprised at many turns, be it music, weapons, enemy design. the atmosphere is just the right kind of eerie. But many turns it did took, the levels are each a maze and some of them go too long, the mission objectives are sometimes so well hidden that more than likely, you'll pick a guide at some point. Bosses are not not hard many of them only trickle ammo, making them take bit too long. It's hard for me to tell how this compares to the original, apparently only some small stuff was changed and the music can be toggled to be the original if you fancy that.
Classic N64 remaster. Very well done.
