The first Risen game was a pleasant surprise for me. It was a very well made, small, but focused, RPG. I was a little bit worried about Risen 2: Dark Waters, because it wasn't well received by the public when it was released in 2012. Now let's see what kind **** it actually is. The game looks good, for the most part. Vegetation is plentiful, polygon count is a little higher than in the first game, and some of the effects, like the sunrays, look impressive. Combat is very similar to the first game, although tailored to the pirate theme, focusing on sabers, epees and firearms, instead of axes, swords and shields, but it does the job quite well. The story is written well enough, and characters are interesting, though the pirate setting is quite a departure from the first game. Quest variety and relative shortness of the game ensures that the game never really becomes boring. For all of those who finished the first game, it's unfortunate that the story in the second Risen isn't sufficientl...

worse than a first game
I bought all the Risen games.
Risen 2: Dark Waters is a bold entry in the action RPG genre that takes players on a swashbuckling adventure through a richly detailed pirate-infused world. Developed by Piranha Bytes, the game builds upon the foundation of its predecessor while introducing a vibrant, tropical setting and a heavier emphasis on naval exploration and combat. For fans of immersive role-playing with a flair for exploration and choice-driven narratives, Risen 2 offers a distinctive experience that blends traditional RPG mechanics with a unique pirate atmosphere. Set in a sprawling archipelago, the game casts players as the nameless hero navigating a world teetering between magic, superstition, and colonial ambition. The narrative is driven by a quest to confront a supernatural threat involving the mysterious Titans, while factions ranging from native tribes to mercenaries and pirates vie for power and influence. This multi-faction dynamic enriches the story with meaningful choices and consequences, allowin...
Made it near the end of
Maracai Bay
after 53 hours played just to have the quest system break and make it impossible to continue
Best of the trilogy in my opinion, play the first, then this one, then stop. The third is clunky, it has bad story and the tutorials and dialogues makes me feel like a freshly spawned toddler.
