okay, this game. it looks good and I wanted to like it, but its flaws make it unplayable. so - launched the game, it gave me two options: play Evil Hazard, or maybe you'd like to play Evil Hazard. that second one is fullscreen although you'd never know it, but beware of picking it because this game seeemingly has no exit function other than x-ing it out. escape doesn't work; it makes a "ping" noise but does nothing; Q does nothing, no button I pressed worked. so there's no way to get out of it in fullscreen beyond task manager; maybe I'm wrong and it's hidden somewhere, but why would you do that? give me a readily visible means to close out of it; that's just basic. we'll come back to another basic in a minute. upon launch, either fullscreen or windowed, the game presents a pixel-art logo (I like pixel art so this is not a negative for me) that sparkles and gleams v e r y s l o w l y and it seems like an odd choice but whatever. then the game invites you to "PRESS TO START." uhhh, ok...

This seems like it was designed for console and kindof spit out on PC. On keyboard the controls feel very weird and floaty. They button layout makes no sense. The performance is also really bad for the kind of game that should run on computers from 15 years ago.

I like challenging platformer/action games but I appreciate a difficulty curve that gradually ramps up so i have time to get comfortable with the controls. This wasn't that. It's incredibly punishing right from the beginning and the controls aren't good enough to justify this kind of torture. Music is bad but the overall graphics remind me of Castlevania which is a plus. In the end though this is just too damn punishing like nobody tested it before it released.

Akward fixed keystrokes. Strange that they have you use Q+W to attack, E to block. Basic default typically is WASD (or arrows with Z+X for attack). Whatever happened to configuring your own controls, just something to think about when designing games. A gamepad would have been nice on this, too bad. It has a good concept but the bugs need major reworking (ie. hitboxes are off, blocking works 50/50). Also the hazards are too tight together, meaning you jump avoiding one spike to hit the other. If the general idea is to progress by trial and error then it needs to in my opinion gradually work you into it and not such a high chance for failure. I'm just nit picking now but the tracklist could be widened, it's literally one track on loop. You have three screen modes: small, large and full screen. If it was in EA I would give it more grace but it's just a pretty high price for something that is hardly playable due to bugs and is supposively feature complete. Updates are meant to add to you...

Over all, I do like the vibe of the game and the direction that was taken. I do have a few little gripes with some of game mechanics, optimisation and settings. As this is only a fresh release, hopefully some more stuff will be added and some of the little bugs will be ironed out. As it stands, I would rate it as playable but possibly not for the asking price at the moment, in it's current state. Find out in more depth below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aZ0_I2MFaY

The pixel graphics make this look good, but I can already see numerous issues with this game. Firstly, the fact that you have to use keyboard for it, *and that you can't change the controls as far as I can tell* renders its ease of play to be rather atrocious. It'd be one thing if I could change the controls, so I could say perhaps have ones I am more used to for platformers on computer (z, x and c being some of the key controls) but this one its got space to jump and most of the other important keys are at the top left of the keyboard! Secondly, and an annoyance for me as someone who likes being able to see more of whats going on, it seems you can't do fullscreen for it. Just small like gameboy sized screen and a large one closer to a DS. Cannot recommend this game, even if the style of pixel graphics is cool.

Review as of early September 2015 - EARLY ACCESS REVIEW So far this is really kind of bad, but it does show promise. It needs a lot more work, but the devs appear to be working on it actively. Just be aware that if you buy it at this point you're going to have a very mediocre game on your hands. On the other hand, I'm optimistic that this game will turn out to be good once they've finished it. As with all EAG, decide for yourself whether you want to take the risk of buying in early and supporting the devs. UPDATE - 2022: They never went anywhere with this. It's not worth the library space, let alone the $3.
