About This Game

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront features the Eastern Front and its “Great Patriotic War” fought between the USSR and Germany. This RTS will take you from June 1941 until the end of the war in May 1945.

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront offers a choice of game modes including Singleplayer, dynamic campaign, PvE, PvP and co-op.

With its instantly switchable views, there’s something for every type of player. First person gunner views for all vehicles, third person views for vehicles and infantry, classic top-down direct control of a single unit or classic RTS top-down; they are all available and instantly switchable.

Conquest (dynamic campaign) mode offers singleplayer and co-op modes to play with your friends. Both modes allow you to compose your own army group, research new units and strategically advance in different paths to dominate the battlefield. The dynamic campaign can range from short to unlimited campaign lengths.

PvP/PvE offers a wide variety of maps from 1v1 to 4v4, and the use of “Doctrines”. These allow you to choose your own special units that fit your individual playstyle. The stage of the war (Early/Mid/Late) can be selected, to experience the evolution of equipment and vehicles as the conflict progressed.

Single player campaigns take place at historical locations, painstakingly recreated and immersive as hell.

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront offers:

 • 12 historical singleplayer missions that can also be played in co-op with friends.

 • 30 PvE and PvP maps

 • PvE Dynamic campaigns in which you develop your own army and fight an ever- changing war across a big collection of maps

 • PvP multiplayer offers doctrines to specialize your armies

 • Instantly switchable 3rd person/ direct control view mode for infantry
DISCLAIMER

Despite what I'm going to say, I actually like the game and I do not regret making this purchase along with all the DLCs but I want the devs to notice that there's some stuff that I genuinely despise and really take the fun out of the game imo. If you are a long time fan of this saga you will enjoy this game regardless so the purchase is a no-brainer, if you aren't keep reading.

AI Pathfinding and general behaviour:
I'm not joking when I say that the AI pathfinding (both friendly and otherwise) is abysimal. I will dispatch an order and I will see half of my men mowed down by an MG emplacement because they went the direction they WEREN'T supposed to go for some unknown reason. I only played the campaign of the liberation DLC so far...some people say that the AI crap itself when playing on those maps because of the more intricate layout that the vanilla maps don't have. I can't deny or confirm this claim but regardless I think the devs should pr...

After 1,060 hours on this game i can honestly say the game is pretty good. There are obvious bugs, some big, some small. A big issue is the AI, It is just stupid sometimes. Probably the biggest complaint i have with the AI is the damn mine laying, every single time i order them to lay mines only about half of the squad will even though the other half has mines as well, this goes for if they even want to follow my order to place them at all. Enough of the AI complaints though this is a positive review. The atmosphere of this game is probably top 3 of all time, the levels are immersive too. Now the realism and historical accuracy is off the charts, It is amazing. I've played many war games but mainly WW2 games and none compare to the experience this games puts you into. I bought the supporter pack for this game and looked at the models and all i can say is wow, they are extremely accurate to history. As i read reviews on this game i heard some people complain about the $35 price tag and ...

Tried to like it for a while but the path finding is just such crap, it completely ruins the game.

A very solid RTS game for beginners and experts alike. The tutorial told me what i needed to know mostly and the PVP, PVE, and CO-OP segments are very fun and engaging. You will need a good chunk of ram to run the game at its best preferably having 32gbs of Ram.

I have found this game amazingly helpful if a little complicated for my world building projects. Thanks to the editor. I am now able to simulate battles in the different worlds. I am working on including things like zombie, apocalypse, worlds, and stuff like that. and thus this game has enhanced my work significantly. Also a piece of advice to fellow world, builders, and other people that want to simulate more modern battles, but can’t afford or can’t get their hands on mods what I use is called the proxy system. For example, if a battle requires me to involve a M1 A2 Abrams tank and I don’t have the time to mod in my own model for a M1 A2 Abrams into the game I would simply take a panzer three or basically the most modern German tank available because in the gates of hell game and in real life, Germany had the best most powerful tanks, especially their panzer series. Take the most powerful version of it if possible upgrade it stats as much as possible, and then give it to maximu...

This is a good game. Not always clear on what or how to do things but you can learn organically and it is fun. Winning feels rewarding, losing feels deserved. I refunded because I realized that this game would take away too much time from other games that I need to focus on, but it stays on my list and I'll go and buy it one day when I have more time and money.

If you like the old A Bridge to Far and other Close Combat games, then this game should be purchased immediately! I love RTS games and this one quickly shoved all others aside. There is so much great workshop content that I don't know when I'll put it down.

I manly use the editor for everything and just play "my own maps" i like the new persistent scarring maps in conquest. Frequent updates is annoying because every mod stops working until someone updates it. I like the old days when updates was a thing of rarity. But in general this is one of the best games ever. with inventory and ( Editor only ) Copy and paste mechanics i use all the time.

I really like this game. Its basically a realistic company of heroes RTS. No base building. It is on the same scale of company of heroes, small town battles maybe 1000m max with just a few tanks/arty/infantry squads. It actually has realistic pen values for tanks, although not realistic max ranges. The fun part is you can direct control any unit, from 1st person sniping with sharpshooters or take control of a Tank and aim for the weak points on enemy armor. Of course if you micro manage too much you suffer in the macro, you can't be everywhere at once.
