Not a rare opinion, but to me, this is the best open world RPG of all time.

I was very interested in playing this game until i got to the point it wouldn't load up for me every time i tried. Then i start watching guides how to actually run it and you've got to download and install files from the websites and make them administrators on the computer and it seemed to much work, when it should of been already installed on purchase. If it gets the fix it should have i'll re-buy it again.
This is going to be a tough review for me. I bounced off NOTR quite hard, but I'm going to give it a positive review anyway. I'll explain why at the end of the review. I played Gothic 2 so many times as a kid, almost two decades ago. It was (and still is) one of my favourite games of all time. I never got to play the NOTR expansion though (this was before digital distribution went big and there simply wasn't anywhere to buy the expansion where I lived.) Recently I played Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos and while gameplay is an upgrade in many regards, I wasn't vibing with the story. It was a bit boring, imo. So I decided that it was time to revisit Gothic 2, this time with the NOTR expansion. Now on to my main problem. I was vaguely aware that NOTR had rebalanced the game, but I wasn't aware of the full extent of it. Maybe it's my bad that I didn't exhaustively google this before I started playing, but I've gotten used to this kind of info being communicated to the player in the game...
Alle Drachen sind tot, nur weißt du nichts davon!
Like old Days, is in it)?
Even though its a 2002 game, Gothic 2 is a masterpiece even for todays standards, in my experience. It is better and more immersive than many modern games, even those from 2025. It has a great game design, unique combat system, immersive and realistic dialogues and a rewarding exploration experience. For a 23 years old game to be more interesting than recent ones, its something to be respected.
One of the best games ever, really ahead of this time
