Mondrian - Abstraction in Beauty

Recommend! ːthumbsupː If you are a fan of breakout games you should give this a go. Mondrian [i](in my opinion)[/i] adds a unique spin and challenges to the genre. There are 3 different game modes [i](Endless, Gem Hunt, Arcade)[/i] to switch things up, as well as 4 difficulty settings, and 3 speeds. And the options don't end there. Instead of just swatting the ball around and picking up buffs/debuffs as they drop into a vertical path you spin in a circle and try to collect 'gems' as they break free from the shapes you destroy. But don't forget to keep an eye on your ball or it might be game over. [b]So many choices.[/b] The gems are used to buy different things to reduce or add to the challenge and many visual styles to keep your retinas interested. Cons * Unresponsive, clunky, jerky controls. * Poor ball contact recognition (hard to control direction, something key to breakout games) * Screen shakes aggravatingly- even with the screenshake option turned off in menu. * Clunky UI * Terrible music quality * Penalty screens on death are too long * Uninteresting gameplay (No casual/relaxed charm, nor the responsiveness, challenge, or depth of a good breakout game) * Not at all relaxing Neutral * Cool-sounding "unlocked components+randomized generation" component is hampered by the different tiles being a challenge to tell apart, and the design of the components only further aggravating the mechanical shortcomings of the game. Very enjoyable meditative game with great music. Don't be fooled by the tutorial - it's there to literally teach you the basics of the game. As you play and accumulate gems, you can spend those gems on new paddles, balls, and levels, allowing you to pick and choose your own advancement through the game's content. Great game to wind-down on before bed, or to kill a few minutes with here and there.

Mondrian - Abstraction in Beauty is a neat game to play if you're looking to unwind and relax or you're just really affectionate about busting bricks. Being able to spin around 360 degrees in an arena is a nice change to most of the general breakout games out there and the quirks continue with the assortment of powerups, stages, and arena modifications to unlock. The music is also pretty neat too, especially with how certain tracks will be played depending on what difficulty you choose. And of course, having a focus on art, the game's minimalistic aesthetic is beautiful, Piet would be proud! While it's a bit rough around the edges in some parts, Mondrian's worth giving a shot.

Interesting concept for Arkanoid-alike coloured blocks wrecking game, there you move your pad not only on flat line track, but star- , cicrle-shaped and that not. Though I didn't go far yet, there seems to be vast variety of settings and levels to keep you intertained longer.

"Art Game" Almost any critism leveled at Mondrian could be countered with 'it's part of the experience of this form of expression of art', but ultimately the game is just not very fun.I'd rather just play plain Breakout, which is essentially what the game is. The controls are awkward, in particular once you've circled around to the top of the screen and they effectively reverse, the ball bounces off things in a strange, non-intuitive way, and the core gameplay loop takes too long to be very engrossing. This is a shallow, low effort attempt at bringing art to gamers. Consider other, more enjoyable works, such as Braid, Okami, walking simulators such as Proteus, or more surrealist works such as Yume Nikki or All Of Our Friends Are Dead (which is free, btw).

Thee #1 best way to kill time! It's casual, yet exciting! Game Devs and I are friends on Gab I did NOT get this game for free - I paid in full. This is the kind of game you give to your mother so she stops playing Facebook games.

Tags: Casual - Brickbreak & Pinball Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Improper Xox360 pad support. Paddle control problems. Circular arena causes game design issues. Xbox360 pad was vibrating but inputs not detecting. The ball would sometimes clip through the paddle. The paddle would accelerate drastically after very slow motion for the initial second as if it was some exponential curve. The circular arena means that if your paddle is up your inputs can feel as if they are reversed if you are just twitch reacting because your paddle is upside down. The visual presentation tries to be clean and crisp and minimalistic. But it comes across as barebones, grating with way too much bright white and flat vibrant colors with no texturing for breakable tiles. The audio did not thrill me much either. Game loads slow and the new age quotes were pointless and not appropriate for an arcade title. Removed for declutter.
