This was a game I used to love for a very long time and always returned to for years. Now, there is nothing to enjoy about it anymore. SquareEnix is taking money from the game to put into other flops without uplifting it, basically feasting on the loyal fans after it releases half-baked content. The community has gotten worse too. From the degenerate roleplaying niche who only care about ERP, to toxic positive gatekeepers. What was once a game I excitedly played alongside others became a game I barely enjoy playing alone doing the same daily grind of crafting, roulette and then log off, because there is nothing fun about the game anymore. I have finally left it for good, unable to convince myself that it is worth a continuous sub on top of paying for whatever meaningless expansions they come out with in a few years. I do recommend new players to give it a try just once, not with the expectation of hoping for meaningful relationships because I doubt you'll find it, but for the story ...

I'd like to thank all of you modbeasts and animals for ensuring that the next live letter is two hours of YoshiP talking about illegal client modifications and the introduction of Easy Anti Cheat. Your inability to not bring drama and nonsense involving something that was "don't show, don't tell" for years to not only their Steam page, but also their official forums and in-game chat channels will be your actual undoing. 10/10, would watch the playerbase that largely doesn't actually play the game make the rest of the game worse for everyone with any sensibility again.

The game hasn't had any meaningful gameplay changes in five years, patch content is comically minimal, and the devs refuse to make changes the community has been begging for since Stormblood.

Writing this review after over two years of having quit playing the game in patch 6.3 and just looking in on the current state of the game(patch 7.3). I'll get the positives out of the way first. The music is amazing and worth purchasing all the soundtracks. Some of the best boss fights I've had in any mmo. The story of 6.0 and prior is something I'll remember forever, #1 best story I'll ever experience in a game and I'm old AF. Kudos to the writers and developers for giving me lifelong memories I'll cherish and I can't forget the friends I made along the way. Onto the bad. Well, it's no secret that this game has the same criticisms today, as when I started in 2017. The patch cycle is a ritual at this point. It's the same cadence and content. They don't iterate enough and so the content ends up being extremely shallow and boring, not enough to keep someone subscribed. Why do tomestones still exist in a game that markets playing all the jobs on one character? Want to play other jobs?...

FF XIV is by far my favorite MMO, beating Eve Online in its good days. I came over in the mass WoW exodus during Shadowlands as I saw Asmongold enjoying it and actually having good community interactions and a dev team that seemed to care about his experience. Devs that listen and hear? I'm in. Now here we are, years and a pandemic later. I can still say FF XIV still holds one of my favorite games to play, but right now it is troubled and making poor decisions. Its apparent in lack of active players and those friends I've made here are no here any longer. They are waiting, just like I am for the game to become good again. Because right now we have a number of issues to address. Firstly, we have a stagnation issue. The same metric has been used for every expansion and all its post content. The release on content is predictable and thats fine early on when things are fresh, but its not anymore and its a metric that feels aged. WoW how the other problem of being rather chaotic in its a...

To Preface: The current endgame of the game isn't great. I will admit that. But the game has had it's many lapses, and has always rebounded. Most people just don't have the patience, or they're all doom and gloom the second anything bad is pushed out or done. The devs learn, they improve; does it take time? Yeah. Try the game though; there's a Free Trial for a reason. At least do that, before you start judging it based on other reviews. Also; Imagine review bombing the game because you're upset an illegal mod against the game's TOS that, SQ tends to turn a blind eye to most of them, made itself super publicized because people can't handle themselves and behave and gets it removed. Lol. You don't need mods to enjoy the game -- and honestly, that specific one absolutely ruined the community and RP scene. If you're not interested in that kinda stuff, then yay! There's still a massive MMO with a huge storyline and so many cool races and classes and content to explore and do! ( Edit: All t...

I love this game, and so I'm leaving a negative review here to incite change and also to warn the community - just before MMOs die, the "white knights" always appear. These people are NOT here to help the community. They are complete losers who are only here to virtue signal. As the game is about to crash head on into a brick wall, they'll hold the wheel steady. While the rest of the community begs the devs to change course, they'll tell the devs not to listen and to "keep going". They don't care, just as long as they appear to be the good guys. They are the MMO community equivalent of cancer; the very definition of toxic positivity. If you love this game, continue speak the truth and ignore their passive aggressive attacks.

While Dawntrail had a rough go 7.3 has been a sharp rebound. The voice acting, the animations, new style quests. The dungeon was without a doubt the best I saw in 12 years of playing this game.

Lack of material updates which provide meaningful content for casual to midrange players to engage with. If you enjoy doing daily dungeons from 5+ years ago, this may be for you.
