I think this is a charming enough Tower of Defense type game. For less than five bucks, I can't help but recommend it. As long as you recoginize it for what it is, and modify your expectations accordingly, you may find it worthwhile.

Various units counter other units or have other special abilities. Inquisitors are best suited against creatures of the dark, undead are immune to poison, tree beasts do well against buildings and so on.
Army of Pixels is mainly inspired by various "tug of war" games. Please note that the game focuses mostly on game mechanics (units with special abilities, counter-units, faction and spell combos), and doesn't really have a story or a rich, developed world. Yet it offers a few hours of content (campaign map + factions to unlock), and then some if you try to reach some of the higher levels in Endless mode.

An extremely fun take on a Plants vs. Zombies style row-shooter. More fast-paced, kenetic and lighter in content than PvZ, but still fun. Can't miss for the price.
Awesome game! There is plenty of strategy concerning which units to use for certain fights (anti-flying vs flying, angels vs demons) and a very fun campaign featuring specialized enemies which you can't unlock yourself. Also, there is plenty of content available at this stage as you can see by my 5+ hours. Army of Pixels is definitely recommended. I'll be happy to answer any questions. FOR DEVS: I have noticed on multiple occasions that if a ranged unit releases a projectile, but dies before that missile reaches the target, the missile will do no damage. I am not sure of your intentions, but I find this unreasonable. If there is a lane with 2 opposing cultists or 2 elven arches, it should perfectly cancel out instead of having the first unit to shoot win.
This game is very fun, I just wish that there were more armies. Overall I really like this game and recommend this game to anyone who wants to play a game where there is strategy involved, or if you just have time and battery to burn.
This is a pretty fun "casual strategy", not much depth, but fun while it lasts. Definitely worth the money. Pro: - Many factions and spells (some weird ones too, like slimes and insects) - Quite unique gameplay (army placement simulator? :D ) - only 5 usd Con: - It really needs some kind of a story or progress, all your progress is just unlocking new factions and territories - Some units are quite similar and not perfectly balanced - Pixel graphics are overused nowadays
Nice little game with interesting gameplay. But the content could have been much more (e.g. longer (and a real) campaign and/or 3x the content of each fraction, so that you could choose only one fraction before map starts - but that fraction with "full power" and maybe some special-boni for not having the different strengths from different fractions or so..)
This had a lot of potential because the idea is simple but nice, the units are well done and quite imaginative. However it would need I'd say 5-10 more factions, stronger counters, units with much more distinctive abilities, and removing those crazily OP spells that the player gets and the AI doesnt (which, incidentally, could have been fun unit abilities: healing, aoe attacks, snares, resurrecting corpses as zombies...). As it is, you can more or less place any unit in the build queues, spam spells and you'll win. Locking factions (with ingame currency) is just a trick for having you spend a bit more time in the game.
Army of Pixels is a tower defense game which is similar to Plants vs Zombies in the core mechanism. The map has four lanes on which you and your enemy can place units to attack the opposite tower, the units on the two sides will combat against each other when they come into fighting range, and those survived in the combat march on to the opposite tower. When a tower is taken down, each remaining opposite unit on this lane score one point, and the whole stage ends when anyone score 10 points. You will earn gold and mana in each interval between round and use the gold to deploy new units. The concept of the game is interesting, however the game feels semi-finished, since the game seriously lacks depth in terms of strategy and is short of variations in almost every aspect (animation, music, story(practically nothing), battlefield). If you're like me and you love tower defense games, you might be tempted by this cute little game. Overall, Army of Pixels is rather fun and simple (especially the latter), but it lacks something oh-so-important to me: a feeling of progression. Most if not all TD/LD games I've played have some sort of skill and/or tower upgrade system that entices you to keep playing as you get more and more powerful. In Army of Pixels, the only "progression" is to unlock factions that give you 3 new units and 1 new skill/spell. No upgrade or power-up. Put simply, I got completely bored after unlocking the first 3 factions and realizing I had better, more entertaining/fulfilling games waiting for me in my library. By all means, if it's dirt cheap like it was when I bought it, feel free to give this game a try; just don't expect any real feeling of progression or fulfillment.
