I'm a huge fan of D/Generation, I played the hell out of the original version and was very excited to hear about the HD remake. Having just finished a full playthrough of the HD version my opinion is very mixed. On the one hand you have absolutely gorgeous colorful graphics, an amazing soundtrack that makes exploring even more fun than in the original and the same smart gameplay as the original as well. Make no mistake, this is very much a thinking man's game. Although it may not look it at first, you'll quickly find that puzzles and discovery of the games rules are the primary gameplay mechanics here. This leads me to my major problems with the game. - Some of the animations are extremely stiff, literally an eyesore, a far cry from the hypnotizing smoothness of the original (I'm looking at the A/gens and B/gens particularly...) - I had a little trouble at times figuring out what objects could be intereacted with and with which ones I couldn't. There are inconsistencies, like desk chai...

Bought the original 20 years ago, and remember exactly where I was & what I was doing. This remastering of D/Generation into HD was done very well, and is a service to the isometric room puzzler genre of videogames. Pros: +Great remake +Thriller atmosphere +Controller support +Story keeps you playing until the end! +Rewarding experience Cons: -Save your game frequently! -Doesn't save the state of the current room (until you leave it)
How many of us played the old, retro version of this game, and wondered if they could ever be brought to life in 3D. D/Generation HD sure does the trick, and the game look slick in 3D, with some nice touches here and there. But just because it looks slick, don't expect a fairly good game here. I mean, sure it reminds us of the good times when this game came out, and I loved seeing the same levels and scenes remade in 3D and the nasty creatures and traps being given a nice enhancement - who here would expect those green turrets to be remade as red worms that spit explosives when they see ya, eh? - and the ability to save at any time is a nice touch, but there are issues here that make one wonder if the developers truly beta-tested their creation. For starters, the courier's movements when running seem jerky - you make him sprint and he suddenly cuts back to the point where he had started to run. Next, the control scheme - it's not really as perfect as one could get, and it certainly c...
Faithful to the original but too many bugs and development seems to have ceased. You might be better off with the original and dosbox, if you can find it
I loved D/Generation when it came out and was excited to see this remake. Unfortunately I was disappointed in this remake. It is a bit buggy and lacks the charm and challenge of the original. The graphics and gameplay just don’t work for me – I “died” several times when my laser wouldn’t fire.
This game is a broken mess. Dialogues will get stuck sometimes making it impossible for you to exit conversations. The dialogue windows will obscure your view while playing as they won't close. The devs also seems to have abandoned this one so I would recommend staying far away from it.
I had the original CD-ROM on my Amiga CD32. The game was awesome with an amazing soundtrack. This remake has an amazing soundtrack. The Game is terrible compared to the original. Bad controls, Poor movement animation and poor wall fading that leads to you not being able to see where you are going. Whilst playing I had a bug where all conversations would stay on screen covering nearly 80% making it impossible to play. It's Jank! However the soundtrack is brilliant. I'm recommending it for that alone.
The only reason I bought this is because I speedrun the original, which makes it even funnier that I have yet to get the Speedrun achievement in this. Some versions of the game on some consoles is AFAIK unbeatable. What a absolute mess.
Feels a tad buggy - it wanted to start on the left most monitor (which is portrait) - making it pretty unreadable as the graphics were all chopped off. I managed to press alt+enter which puts it in a portrait window. I had to kinda blindly change the resolution. Once in the game - the animations don't seem all that natural. The eye stalks fire rate is way to fast (in the original I felt you could dodge them somewhat) - that's ok though. What really got me after a while is the stuck dialogue messages - even after saving and going back to the main menu they were still there. For the $4 I paid - probably ok? The original Amiga version was so charming though :(.
The graphics are higher resolution than the original but the walls are far too high to see all the electrified floor plates, which makes it frustrating to play. At least one room looks like it has a bug that makes it impossible to complete? I'd recommend playing the original version of the game instead.
