About This Game

Dr. Fred’s mutated purple tentacle is about to take over the world, and only you can stop him!

Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!

Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’).

Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart’s desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.

Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators.

One of the first computer games I ever played back when I was a kid. I've owned this for several years, but after doing another run through a couple nights ago I figured I might as well drop a review. This is still one of the best point and click adventure games I've ever played--possibly the best period. Great music, great characters, and great voice acting (something I never got to hear when I played as a kid because I could never get it working). It has legitimately funny moments that still make me chuckle. Love the setting, love the music. The remastered graphics are beautiful, and I love that the game lets you change between the old and the new as well as offering the option to use the old school "word" interface or the more modern style. I prefer to play with the words interface and the remastered graphics and music. Thanks for the remaster Double Fine. A true treasure from the past faithfully redone and preserved. I couldn't ask for anything more.

This game is sometimes mind bending and I am not a tentacle, so I do not bend easly. I would press "F" to pay respects to the ones, who finished the game without a guide or hint. It is a great game though. I really liked the humor, the dubbing and artstyle. If you are having problems with some riddles I recommend checking nicegamehints.com - its creator ensures to not spoil anything.

IDIOTS!!!!!!! 😭 amazeballs game it's entirely too good. leagues ahead of anything else i've seen in terms of writing and creativity and overall fun. it's so clear why this is one of the quintessential point and click adventure games, completely defined a genre. considering what i've heard about the puzzles i expected this to be a much more difficult and meaner play than it was, but i really never found myself too lost or frustrated and i promise i'm an idiot. of course there were answers to certain puzzles that i never in a million would have guessed but those are par for the course; in any case you can find the original hint book online which was really fun to use, i found it funny having the walkthrough written in bernard’s voice and it was just another example of writing that i loved. in terms of the remastered release specifically, i can’t say i preferred the new graphics and interface to the original but i appreciated the option to switch between the two. i think the cool...

It's one of the best point-and-click adventures ever, I loved it in the 90s and unlike Full Throttle, there's not much changed here except clearer voices and higher res graphics. The original was mostly in a 16:9-ish aspect ratio anyway, so it's mostly just redrawn or upscaled to look nicer. The audio commentary and concept art is nice, but don't get it just for that, get it cause it's a great game.

A timeless classic with beautifully updated visuals that preserve everything that made the original so special. Smart, hilarious, and still one of the best point-and-click adventures ever made. A game worth revisiting every few years.
