When our story begins, things aren't looking good for Eleanor Rosewood, one of London's first female lawyers. It's 1898, and young Eleanor is penniless and on the verge of losing her home. The city itself is plagued by a mysterious sickness: animals are being found dead, their blood completely drained.

One night, Eleanor's first client, Professor McDonald, hires her to take on his case. But when a body is found in his home—drained of blood just like the animals—the entire city blames him for the horrific plague. Is he truly responsible? Or is this something far more sinister? It’s up to Eleanor to save her client from the gallows and uncover the truth.
