Dead Island Definitive Edition is an open world action RPG with a strong focus on melee combat and survival in a zombie infested paradise. I’ve finished it 4 times already and each run was fun, especially with friends, the crafting system and unique missions really make this game stand out. If you’ve completed it with your buddies and enjoyed it, I highly recommend playing Riptide since its story continues directly. 9/10

🌟 Follow Ainsel Reviews - Curator for the weird & lovely 🌟 Welcome to DEAD ISLAND – the only holiday resort where the buffet bites back! Sun, sand, and severed heads: in this Definitive Edition, the beaches are bloodier, the cocktails spicier, and the zombies chunkier than ever before. Grab your friends, grab a paddle, and prepare for hours of drop-kicking undead into the stratosphere while your buddy dual-wields electrified machetes like he’s auditioning for a B-movie that never got released. Warning: Side effects may include uncontrollable laughter, excessive gore, broken paddles, and shouting “Did you see that?!” at least once every five minutes. This isn’t survival horror. This is survival slapstick. Book your ticket now – because nothing says “holiday memories” like sunburns and zombie spleens.
There is something special about this game that I've never been able to definitively pin down. Not sure if I'm blinded by nostalgia (I played hundreds of hours of this game in the early 2010s on my PS3) or if it really is a special game. I certainly think it's underrated, and it's philosophy is based on the simple premise of having fun killing zombies. Is the story good? Not really, it drags the player along to give some sort of background objective to work towards, as do pretty much all the side quests and what not. All this busy work is usually worth it though in the form of weapon mods, or cool weapons that dish out more damage than the last (it's slightly similar to Borderlands in that way). This game was released at a time where games were starting to evolve into more serious, narrative driven experiences, Dead Island clearly tries to fit in with this trend, and fails, embarrassingly so. The voice acting and general writing Isn't good enough to evoke any sort of emotion, I wish...
Dead Island THE MOST HARDEST ACHIEVEMENTS in 2025 (SERIOUSLY GAME IS DEAD)
I honestly wanted to enjoy this game again in 2025, nostalgia and all. The gameplay is still okay, the setting is decent, and the combat feels weighty. But there’s one massive issue that ruins it for me.
The achievements
After spending 100+ hours trying to 100% Dead Island, I’ve realized it’s just not worth the grind anymore. The achievements are either broken, painfully outdated, or require multiplayer coordination that's impossible in a “dead” game. Yes, the game is literally dead good luck finding players for co-op achievements unless you stalk forums or Discords hoping someone shows up. That’s not how games should work in 2025.
What if we use mods/Cheat?
I know there are ways to get achievements using mods or cheats but that's not what I'm here for. I get it, some people use them (and yeah, I’ve tried mods too sometimes) , but in ...
would recommend this game is fun good combat and alright story but the escort missions do repeat and it gets old after a bit.
the game is trash absolutely zombies are stronger when you level up and there is no fun in killing zombies in old ways of zombie games (in this game there is no easy zombie kills and mostly I don't feel the excitement of the game there is no real combat only limitation + zombies attacks are very smart) makes it Meh for me. I want Real zombies that: are from weak and slow to fast + much more special ones. easy kills and a lot of guns to kill zombies easily. the game should not make the Zombies the Main focus. zombies should be just a bugs to swing around and kill for fun. the real treat should be mutants or maybe real zombie bosses. why I say Real every time since this game doesn't have a fun zombies as Dying light made it pretty fun but this game literally weak zombies can damage you and kill you. the slow animation from standing up for playing is just horrible even zombies can hit you while you are down. brutes always resets their location and zombies feels like Minecra...
The game will be great if the controls aren't so awful and unbalance damage. I'm just playing for pride per the money I spent.
Dead Island is a zombie, shooter, multiplayer and open-world game set on an island. The setting and the concept of the game offer great potential, but the game doesn’t really deliver on it. There are a few really good moments where I had a good amount of fun, but besides that, the combat system doesn’t feel great—it is rather slow and enemies with huge health pools feel tedious to kill and don’t really make the game enjoyable. Playing with friends improves the experience and we had a few good laughs, altough some of which were due to the somewhat poor voice acting. If you play it with friends, it can be an okay game, but otherwise, I sadly cannot recommend it.
VERSION PLAYED: Finished the main story with some side missions in 20hs. No DLCs. PERSONAL BACKGROUND: Played when it first came out, but dropped it in the first act, so this turn around I wanted to finished it! CORE NOTES - Controls and Combat: [2/10] Plenty of weapons, but the combat is shallow and clunky. Animations aren’t responsive, timing feels unreliable, and attacks sometimes don’t connect even at the same range. Stamina drains way too fast for how little depth there is. Running eats it too, so get used to jogging everywhere. The “dodge” is just a side jump, and it feels fake. Modding weapons sounds cool but ends up shallow and overpriced. Money doesn’t matter because the best gear is just found randomly, and vendors never sell anything worthwhile. - Level or World Design: [2/10] Maps all blur together. Exploration isn’t rewarding — no cool weapons, no secrets worth your time, just another crafting mod maybe. You’ll backtrack through the same-lo...
This game was amazing back in the day. Nowadays, it still holds up. The atmosphere is great, the combat is solid enough and the story is decent.
