This game… this horrible and gorgeous game — full of bugs and rough in every aspect:

An incomprehensible and terrible UI.
NPCs that get stuck on the tiniest polygon, yet somehow have perfect, instant headshot aim when they shoot at you.
Quests that can’t be completed and block your progression. Enemy drones that don’t even react when you fire at them.
If your friend turns on the thrusters while you’re not seated, you will clip straight through the ship’s hull and into oblivion.
Generic, free 3D assets are scattered everywhere.
They took seven years just to add the ability to crouch
Many weapons still have misaligned crosshairs.
And yet, with all these flaws, after 10 years and 1,000 hours of gameplay, there’s no other game I want more to evolve and achieve the success it deserves. After all this time, and countless memories playing with friends — memories of instant death by an invisible sniper, but also of traveling in our own...

About the Game
Empyrion – Galactic Survival is a true space sandbox survival adventure that uniquely combines elements from space simulations, construction games, survival games and first-person shooters. Construct mighty capital vessels, sprawling planetary settlements, and vast space stations in your galactic journey to discover the mysteries of Empyrion!
Build mighty capital vessels, agile fighters, vast planetary settlements, and space stations with complete freedom; piece by piece, anywhere you want – or download pre-built community blueprints from the Steam Workshop and customize them with your own ideas!

Fully modify and deform the terrain on any planet. Thanks to the voxel-based terrain, you can flatten it for your planetary settlement, dig holes to find resources, or build a tunnel system to protect yourself. Empyrion is a true sandbox game!

A vast galaxy awaits you. Warp and fly between a huge variety of planets, moons, and far-flung star systems. Freely explore the surface of each planet, with its own gravity, atmosphere, terrain, vegetation, climate, resources, and more. Survive its flora and fauna, and discover the secrets of alien races.

Elevate your experience with an ocean of player-made blueprints for vessels and settlements, along with mods that provide completely new scenarios and items.

To survive in space and on alien planets, you must plan with ingenuity and caution. Food, oxygen, resources, and ammo are essential. Hunt, forage, and plant a garden to sustain yourself. While some beings you encounter will be peaceful, others will destroy you given any opportunity. Come prepared with a range of weaponry and defensive measures.

Play as a lone wolf in single player or join the multiplayer community. Team-up with friends, build new friendships, create alliances, and wage war. Build yourself a comfortable home in a well-protected PvE area and face the dangers of PvP planets and conquer the solar system with your faction.

Learn how to combine resources and building materials to craft your equipment. Craft on the move or in your base and equip your buildings and vessels with a range of different weapons and gadgets. As you perform various activities, level up and unlock new tech in the tech tree!

Fuel your crafting and construction projects by digging deep into planets for rich deposits or drilling through asteroids full of rare ore. Scavenge alien buildings and other structures you come across for additional resources.

Forget food, resources, and enemies and just build. Create wonders with absolute freedom and then share them with the creative community by uploading them to the Steam Workshop!

User Reviews
I don't review lot of games, for reasons that I won't get into here, but I felt that I needed to counter rdunham3's review, which is a negative review from a player that has 736 and a half hours into the game, and offers a negative review because the game is "hard to recommend" because it's "unpolished" and he or she only enjoyed the "first few hundred hours." Okay. Sounds like a positive review to me, so I'm going to nullify his negative, as it's the best I can do. I also have enjoyed many hundred hours in this game, which I feel would be enough to give it a thumbs up, but I'd like to add.. 'with my friends' and 'with little to no multiplayer jank'. I've had some seriously breath-holding moments, the likes of which you might see on the big screen, in this game... waiting for a friend to come sailing over the left ridge and distract a ferocious enemy long enough for me to skitter off to safety. That's an unscripted goldmine, friends. This game is not the golden age of gaming reveale...
3,500 hours into this game and a decade later, guess I should leave a review huh? Ok, so let me preface this first by stating that this is a small development studio game, like we're talking single digits, and they've designed this absolutely incredible gem of a beautifully broken game. The very fact that a game like this, with such a small development team has been around 10 years, should tell you something. The game has wonderful bones, and honestly I've played a lot of different games of the genre and there is absolutely nothing that lets you build custom bases, ships and even capital vessels like Empyrion. There just isn't anything like it, and the community for this game is absolutely incredible. Frankly the community should be credited for at least half of the reason this game is still alive. Look over on Youtube and search Reforged Eden 2, and you will see what I mean. That's not saying Vanilla is bad, they've just recently done a major update to vanilla that I am playing...
I had started to play this game years ago but put it aside for some reason. I just recently got back to it a month or so ago. I would not recommend this game to anyone for purchase. Only if it's free. Too many problems that have not been fixed. I'm presuming the gamemaker(s) isn't updating it anymore or isn't interested in fixing the current problems. I've been reading a lot of them on the steam community trying to get help with my own problems with it since I never got a response to the issue I sent in. Edit; Aug 14, 2025 - Great. Another game where the game makers force you to start a new game after an update. Pisses me off. Time to move on to a different game.
solid gameplay behind a little jank. this is a great game, farm mats, build a ship custom or blueprint. explore and loot. but beware u can be blown out of the sky instantly when starting out.
Probably the best space survival sim you've never heard of. No Man's Sky focuses on the exploration factor, Elite Dangerous more on the flight and fighting, and this is the one for building. You can make just about anything in this game, from small personal vehicles to full-sized towns and starship carriers. I'm hard-pressed to think of a better space game for building. Space Engineers, maybe? X series? Can't beat the price either. $20 is a hell of a deal and that's the full price. Under $30 with the only DLC it's got. Get it when you got nothing else going on. You'll enjoy it, especially if you're a NMS player looking for more pewpew and less exploration.
This game has it's moments when you can get past the clunky UI. Sadly it feels outdated, in both play through and design for things like Building. This game had a lot going for it, but sadly it feels like it's been abandoned. Unless the Developers decide to really dig in hard to bring this game around. It needs Love so badly.
Was hoping, after years, they'd finally put polish on things. But movement and physics are still as painfully jerky as they were 2 years ago
This game is the most basic game i have ever seen, building on a grid,no freedom of building, wooden blocks but no wooden doors, not tools to flatten the ground,a dev that refuses to listen to the community and bans anyone including me from the discord channel because he can't accept criticism from the playerbase, waste of time and money.don't buy.
Btw empyrion was doo doo trash. It’s a fricking nuclear engineering manual just to build a cube. You gotta collect materials (fine), place the crafter (fine), put materials in the crafter (fine), go to tech tree to find what to build (fine), go to crafter to build (fine), (A) build subcomponents and move them from output to input / (B) build mid component / (C) build end component (questionable) [ie. turn carbon into nanotubes and nanotubes into electrical parts, and electrical parts into computer, and computer into core], then place your end component- but wait you have to place the core first! And it needs power, why not solar? Just gotta build a capacitor, and panels, because you read the entire tech tree, and leveled up a few times to unlock the tech and you understand its dependencies. Then you place the capacitor and panel, turn on the power at the core, see a battery meter, wonder where batteries are, don’t find them, wonder if you can charge the capacitor with a generator...
