About This Game

WELCOME TO NEPTUNE

In The Pale Deep, you'll be playing as a series of cadets in doomed missions on board "The Diving Bell" vessels. However, with every lost cadet, you learn a little bit more about Neptune's ecosystem.

NO HARM MUST COME TO THE ECOSYSTEM

You have no weapons. All you have is a foghorn, a decoy launcher, and your research tools. There is no fighting, only distracting, scaring, and hiding.

WATCH EVERYTHING

You have a camera and a radar, but just because you don't see anything on those, doesn't mean you're safe. For example, a sudden drop in temperature could indicate a presence.

SURVIVE UNTIL YOUR EQUIPMENT, OR YOUR KNOWLEDGE FAILS YOU

You can log everything you learn in the mission database, and you can access it any time to aid in facing familiar creatures. However, none of that matters if your equipment has buckled under the pressure, or if you've encountered something no one else has before.

UPGRADE YOUR EQUIPMENT

Not only will we learn more about Neptune through these missions, but we'll learn how to develop better equipment. Research & Development is always making progress with the help of your missions into the planet.

THIS ECOSYSTEM IS UNPREDICTABLE

The effective tactics to defend against the inhabitants of Neptune are randomized and different for every playthrough. Knowledge of this ecosystem gained through previous playthroughs or by watching others will be useless.

FIND WHAT LIES AT THE BOTTOM

Deep down within Neptune, lies an ocean of water and ammonia. One day, some cadet will be the first to see it, and what lies within it.

If you want a trial-by-error game, look no further. The tutorial gives you some basic level understanding of the instruments you will be using.. but nothing prepares you for the descent. In the beginning, unsure of really how to use the camera and recorder - I was mince meat in my vessel. I learned to create a routine of constantly taking pictures and checking the audio for any anomaly action. Still learning how to defend myself as the tools to combat these aggressive anomalies are at your disposal to figure out by using and praying to the heavens it goes away and you can keep on your mission. The upgrades you can get seem useful and I am wondering if there is a bottom or endgame. Overall having fun and on mission 11.

Creative horror-ish game about diving into Neptune Unfortunately corporate doesn't wanna give us guns so we have to survive with a foghorn and some funky baloons Upgrades do exist but technically all that is needed is the knowledge of enemies' weaknesses to beat Death isn't just another jumpscare so if you dislike those you need not worry Duck Rating: 9/10

If Iron Lung was a sci-fi horror detective game, you'd get this You have to be ready to pay attention to the smallest of details, but its worth it

A solid 'monitor for changes' game! I'm a sucker for these games and this one feels quite scary in that you have to keep track of many small things. Its a learning experience in where dying makes it easier for you in the future. I'm a big fan of the database system. Cons: - The controls feel quite basic, some change in the controls would be nice (eg; speed slider/direction rather a knob than both sliders) - You get used to the loop of checking all instruments, maybe a few more could be nice? - The Speed slider feels very weird, sometime it makes a noise at low thresholds, sometimes it doesn't Pros: - VERY immersive, I find myself quite locked tf in when checking instruments for issues - Finding an anomaly and NOT knowing what to do at first is thrilling - Finding an anomaly and trying to remember what to do is even more thrilling and rewarding. I feel it is VERY fun and exciting for something with so little is terms of game-play mechanics. The graphics are simple and effective. I li...

Played this game on my YouTube channel and it really grew on me. I didn't understand the gameplay at first, but the best way to sum it up is Iron Lung with randomized entities that can kill you. And FNAF-esque gameplay of being locked into a room and managing systems. You have to always be taking pictures of the outside, recording the audio going on around you, and keeping an eye on your radar. Once you've detected an entity with those things, its up to you to figure out how to combat/avoid it. And what each entity is defeated by randomized every time you hit New Game. So its like solving a puzzle that you can reshuffle every time. I can heartily recommend people give this game a shot. ESPECIALLY fans of Iron Lung and the original FNAF games.

HOW DO YOU BEAT THE GLOWIES HAUUUUUGH. If you liked Voyager-19 or Iron lung you'll love this game. Edit: Their weakness was "go back up" and i got three of them in a row -_-

Good minimalist game, expecting players to learn their enemies quickly and on their own due to the random nature of the solutions. Unexpected equipment failures tied to a progression system assists in building a strong feeling of learning and eventually succeeding in what originally felt impossible. I encountered some issues in the tutorial, but these were quickly fixed. Developer is active, helpful, and very nice. A hidden gem for those who favor games involving trial and error learning, heightened by its randomness and unique scenario.

Very interesting game, I like the idea behind it and it's fairly fun to play, if a bit simple. Different threats have different solutions, theoretically randomized between playthroughs (Save files), and the threats seem to be taken from a pool for certain depths of the areas, and you need to determine what causes them to leave you alone (Through heavy trial and error). I'm not certain how random the 'types' of threats are for every section, but the solutions are definitely fairly randomized.
