About This Game

The Isle: A World Designed to Kill You

The Isle is intended to be a gritty, open-world survival horror game. Explore vast landscapes of dense forest and open plains, traverse treacherous mountains and wade through dark swamps where horrors lurk. Hidden within are ruins that hold insight as to what came before. Through it all, keep in mind there is only one goal: survive.

There is little in the way of hand holding or ulterior precepts to alter play styles or purpose. It's kill or be killed. In the end, the only one you can trust is yourself. Over the course of development the islands and their inhabitants will radically change, ever-evolving as players themselves learn how to flourish and thrive. Your mistakes will be punished. Expect no survivors.

Massive Prehistoric Multiplayer

Become the beast within. When joining The Isle, you can play as one of dozens of unique creatures, from tiny darting herbivores like Dryosaurus to blood-thirsty giants such as T. Rex or Allosaurus (with many more still to come!) As a dinosaur, you'll be the epitome of majestic, cunning and ferocious. Use your natural abilities and senses to stay off the menu and grow into a stronger, more capable creature.

Engage with a living prehistoric ecosystem as you become either predator or prey on servers featuring up to 100+ players, all of them as hungry and dangerous as you. Form packs/herds, create nests, defend your offspring, hunt, and claim territory. A single mistake can spell your demise.

Survival or Sandbox?

The Isle's core game mode is Survival, a tense and difficult experience where you need to grow fast or die young. Dinosaurs in Survival mode progress through several life stages, starting out small and vulnerable. Use your scent ability, night vision and wits to survive long enough to grow, becoming more powerful and unlock new abilities such as nesting. Because of the time needed to develop a full character life cycle, not every creature is or will be playable in Survival, though more will be added in future updates.

However, sometimes you don't want to struggle to survive, or you don't have the time to go through a dinosaur's whole life story. And that's okay. For players who want a less intense experience, Sandbox mode lets you play an expanded roster of dinosaurs (and soon humans!). You can jump right in as an adult super predator or a peaceful giant, with no major penalties or consequences from dying. We won't judge.

A Global Community Story

The Isle features a narrative told strictly through the environment, achievable only through immense cooperation among players. Are you stranded? Can you just leave? What is AE? How did the dinosaurs get here? What is the distant call that pierces the night?

It will take the entire community to answer these mysteries and unravel the purpose to their being on The Isle, and each discovery will directly affect the future of the game's storyline.

Future Development Goals

We realize that there is a long road ahead, and a lot of work to be done to turn this into the game we want it to be. Throughout development, we will be adding a lot more to The Isle and incorporating user feedback in how we evolve the experience. Some of our planned features include:

  • Playable aquatic and aerial creatures
  • Even more playable dinosaurs with complete life cycles
  • Two new playable factions: modern humans & the indigenous
  • Evolve into advanced "strain" versions of certain dinosaurs
  • Realistic dinosaur AI that uses complex behaviours
  • Additional world biome types such as thick jungles
  • Dynamic aerial drop-in spawn system
  • Global in-game world quest
  • Localization of all in-game menus & text
  • Better accessibility & customization options
  • Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Emotes
  • Mod support using Steam Workshop

All that and more are on our radar going forward. We started with a plan of just a mere handful of playable carnivores, but based on player demand we expanded our scope, increased that number greatly and introduced herbivorous dinosaurs as well. Listening to our community has been instrumental in guiding our process and helped to correct our mistakes, and we hope that together we can transform The Isle into the ultimate dinosaur game.

They released a patch months ago that broke fish and wildlife spawns, and they still haven't fixed it. Clown devs.

This game used to be super fun. Now, it's plagued with hackers and bugs. The devs slowly put out broken assets rather than fix the problems with the game. Used to have a lot of fun, but now it's just frustrating to play. I will change this review if things change. But after almost 4000h of getting to know the game and the devs. Imma say nothing is going to change lol

Horrible experience Play Carnivore, no food at all, nothing to find, no AI to kill, everything else kills you in one shot Play Herbivore, find SPECIFIC PLANT to eat, only spawns after a million years of you standing in the area, and after you ate a specific item the game never tells you to Incredibly HORRIBLE for a new player, even after reading multiple guides, watching videos, and trying to find what to do and tell my friends how to play, the game feels horrible Horrible experience Horrible game Horrible Mechanics No wonder people keep slandering the devs on the reviews, this is horrendous

Game is very well thought of and made by the developers. I love the different classes that you can select to play when it comes to dinosaurs. However, developers has really let the cheating get out of hand. EasyCheat software is very easy to bypass allowing hackers to get into the game and just hack and mod away without oversight. Nothing like getting one-shot by a dino that you know in the wild would't be able to do that. Like a cera diving in the water at super fast speeds to kill a deino. Then there's the issue of Ai in the game. Deino's has it the worst at the moment. You literally spawn into the game at one of the lakes and literally die from starvation after a few minutes of playing time. As a Carnivore, you need meat, and Ai is that meat. When no Ai is present then you die. Since you're not fully grown yet, then you can't kill other players to eat them. Game mechanics when it comes down to fighting is unbalanced. Stegos has a high hit box. One hit from the tail and you dead. Get...

If Ubisoft had made this game with 12 of their most lazy developers, it would at least be done by now...

the evirma verison Is very good but the game has some bugs and not many dinosaurs so i will give it a 8/10 but if they add many more dinos like path of titans it will be 9/10 Also make it so you grow a bit faster, it takes forever

the game has been in early access for over 10 years now, the developpement of the game is really slow, the lead dev is incompetent and always ban and mute people for no reason, he also was a friend with a pedo and defended him, and when it became public, he went to hibernation for 6 months or more and deleted all his twitter, now regarding the game, we have 1 update in 6 months and that if we are lucky, there is no apparent gameplay loop, you just eat drink pvp and repeat, waste of hours in my opinion. if you see my hours in this game you would think that i love it but no, i gave it a lot of time to redeem itself and thinking that the game has potential, thats why i came back many times and after each update, but each updates confirmed me that the game will go nowehere.

I didn't pay $20 to play a bug ridden starving simulator, overwhelming major bugs for a game that's been in development for many years and still is to this day, inconvenient and down right dumb concepts such as an external website map that you need to constantly keep copying and pasting coordinates into to find and track your current location in an already unnecessarily massive map. As players, we shouldn't have to use a third party tool for the most basic and important feature that should already be implemented into the game no matter the reason and no, I'm not going to spend hours upon hours to learn and memorize it through countless trials and errors. The game has a lot of potential, the same can be said about many others alike, but this development team just isn't it. The game's a train wreck, however not entirely due to it's pleasing visuals and sounds which kept me coming back time after time again to suffer more and more; No more. Regret purchasing.
