Stuck in a corner, unable to reach any player safely with a pass, I realise I can pass to my keeper. That gives away a penalty kick! I have now given a penalty to the opposition by passing the ball? Seriously!!? This is such a nice idea for a game being made bad by daft overthinking. Things like that on the one hand yet then insisting that the ball goes out of play before a substitution can be made (instead of simply implementing it at the end of the opposition turn for the benefit of gameplay) demonstrate bad design thinking here. Neither strategy, nor rogue-like, nor simulation, it lurches between each, adding bits of simulation to impede strategy and player super-powers to impede simulation - then puts huge dollops of randomness about, basically, randomly. It's all made hugely frustrating by the fact that there's such a good idea at the heart of all this.
