a bit more linear than the first two but makes up for it with great movesets, environments and a satisfying sense of progression

Out of all souls games, I didn't expect this one to age the worst. Every other game in the series has something unique about it, and this one feels like a souls-themed Bloodborne reskin or a demo for Elden Ring. It's very short, linear and easy compared to other From games. However, if you're tired of replaying Elden Ring for the 1000th time and want the same thing with different levels, this game can scratch that itch.

An enjoyable and fitting end to the series, certified masochistic fun. Some fights were pretty hectic but manageable if you use all the tools and wits you have at your disposal. The covenant grinding was a bit of a nightmare but everything else was great fun! Nothing quite beats that feeling of finally sticking it to certain bosses after banging your head against the wall countless times! 10/10 would dark souls again!

they locked tf in when designing most of the bosses but souls games aren't allowed to have both good bosses and good areas so to balance it out they allocated time that would've been spent on yhorm and all those filler bosses on making undead settlement and uhhh just undead settlement. most areas don't live up to their bosses which is a weird sentence but i don't think they're bad just generally unremarkable. i'm not gonna list out each area individually but i find they're just really linear on average, which is odd because people seem to champion the opposite. irithyll is the weirdest example because this is supposed to be the most heckin wholesome area of all time but it's basically one long path with no divergence. i also don't agree with ringed city enemy placement which encourages just running past everything because all the enemies have joint aggro and a million poise and again they clearly put a lot of effort into midir demon princes and gael as they are 3 of the best fights in ...

Things I liked: -the story -the gameplay -the enemies designs and world -the return of older locations -the endings -the ability to turn off online and play offline Things I didn't like: -the lack of cloud saving -the lack of bonfire aesthetics -the linearity -some extremely annoying areas -the jailers -the teleporting dogs -the lack of location variety -performance -the covenant item grind I'd give this game a 8.5/10. There are a lot of things that I liked about this game and a lot I disliked about this game, however I generally loved my experience with Dark Souls III. I feel like a lot of my critique is self-explanatory, so I will not waste your time restating all of that information. While I think I enjoyed Dark Souls III more, I do miss the exploration of Dark Souls II. Exploration and hidden secrets are obviously still in the game, however this game is a lot more linear compared to Dark Souls or Dark Souls II. For that reason, I feel a lot more willing to repl...

It is uncommon for me to write an actual review on a game. But I just finished my first playthrough and I honestly just had to. This is maybe the best game I've ever played, otherwise definitely among them. This is every strong point of the series without the glaring flaws from the previous two. No development rush that ruined aspects of the game, no useless areas, and minimal bullshit. Yes, the game is hard. But not unfair like the previous two. It is challenging, but rewarding, and exhilarating. A masterpiece of game design and art direction. The combat is satisfying and generally never straight up unfair. The weapons are well designed and allow for many unique playstyles. The character stats don't have some of the bs from ds2/ds1. Super customizable and fun challenging gameplay which ties perfectly into the Dark Souls narrative of earning your place through honed skill. The art direction is unmatched. One of the most beautiful games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Me...

Great game, really. If you are wondering whether it is worth picking it up, then certainly go for it, but keep in mind one thing, you will most likely get annoyed by some bosses/mechanics - but it can be mastered with patience and time! Really enjoyed the journey!
