This game was well designed, it never felt like I was over-powered, and I was always having to think about combat even up to the end of the game. I really like the writing also - it was clever and engaging. The party banter was quite funny in spots (you can listen in on their thoughts sometimes). It's an rpg-maker game, so if that bothers you, this may not be your cup of tea. If however, you like playing a challenging game that is both funny and clever, then you will enjoy it. I did. Game time was about 10-12 hours. Not bad for an inexpensive game! Have fun!

About This Game
Storyline
Jerrat was a farmer, not a knight or a lord, a common man, what the world considered just one of the 'little people'. But sometimes the world needs the qualities of a common man, and the actions of the little people can change everything.
Can Jerrat achieve his aim without ceasing to be the man his wife loved? Find out as you join him on his journey, where the tale of a common man intertwines with the destiny of a nation.
The Tale of a Common Man was made by Aldorlea Games, the creators of Millennium, Asguaard, Moonchild and many others.

Generic grinding combat paired with a story that keeps telling you to go grind. Remarkably poor writing on a technical level combined with absolutely no sense of subtlety, as Jerrat tells the player that he loves his family and will be sad now that they're dead and swears revenge because he is angry and is bad at fighting because he is a common man, as the story then poorly meshes with the gameplay as Jerrat proceeds to have trouble beating up rats despite regularly going to the forest to pick mushrooms. Add in the clumsy pairing of original art and stock RPGMaker assets and you have an all around mediocre game that I see no reason to bother sitting through any longer.
Just beat it on the hardest mode! Loveable characters, beautiful story, engaging combat, lots of stategy (or you can level grind), potion making is great! The world, I wish there was another game in this world! This game is worth at least 15$, I swear, I really became attatched to the characters! And its so well written, the character sprites look phenomenal! Truly, a MUST PLAY game, go for it, buy it, its fantastic! :D
well worth the money and sooo many side quests i missed several aparently and still finished the game will have to hope for a walkthrough or guide to see exactly how many i missed lol
SUCH A GOOD GAME!!! to put this into perspective for you, I have beaten more than half of the Final fantasy games, five of the legend of zelda games, and around nineteen other JRPGs/RPGs. AND THIS GAME IS IN MY TOP 3. So far, that is. Amazing. Just. Fucking. Amazing.
I have a soft spot in my heart for RPGMaker games, so here's another of them! Good story, good hero, cute game. Kinda short and I missed a few things just due to getting a little bit pulled through by the story, but overall very fun. Definitely recommended if you like these kind of games like I do. :)
Quite an interestign game. However do not worth the full price. The game is slow and repetitive.
Play this game if you're looking for something short (10 hours), simple, and charming. I was satisfied at least, and I challenge you to avoid making it through the ending without at least smirking. Screw distilling poitions though. Whoever thought that system was even remotely usable needs to get kicked out of the industry.
Just finished Tale Of A Common Man some 47 hours later. This game does not let you down. Artwork excellent, involvement total. Characters true to life. Steam achievements. Enough main characters as the game progresses to chop and change who will be in your party (did I say characters). A most unlikely set of adventures each with their own priorities brought together. It worked for me. However, it certainly made me think about the out-come. The developers I feel got it right. For me I would have liked to have seen more of the 3D adventures in game rather than waiting till the end. That said, an excellent idea to give you a run down on how each of your party faired in and out of battle... Nice... No spoilers. If you enjoy RPG's I would certainly recommend giving it a try.
