About This Game

Battle Brothers is a turn based tactical RPG which has you leading a mercenary company in a gritty, low-power, medieval fantasy world. You decide where to go, whom to hire or to fight, what contracts to take and how to train and equip your men in a procedurally generated open world campaign. Do you have what it takes to lead them through bloody battles and to victory?

The game consists of a strategic worldmap and a tactical combat layer. On the worldmap you can freely travel in order to take contracts that earn you good coin, find places worth looting, enemies worth pursuing or towns to resupply and hire men at. This is also where you manage, level up and equip your Battle Brothers. Once you engage a hostile party the game will switch to a tactical map where the actual fighting takes place as detailed turn based combat.

  • Manage a medieval mercenary company in a procedurally generated open world.
  • Fight complex turn-based tactical battles with historical equipment and brutal injuries.
  • Permadeath. All characters that die in combat will stay dead – unless they return as the undead.
  • All characters come with their own background stories and traits. Want a stuttering ratcatcher, a greedy witch hunter or a drunkard disowned noble?
  • Character development without a restrictive class-system. Each character gains experience through combat, can level up and acquire powerful perks.
  • Equipment that matters. Different weapons grant unique skills – split shields with axes, stun enemies with maces, form a spearwall with spears or crush armor with a warhammer.
  • Diverse enemy roster. All enemies have unique equipment, skills and AI behavior.
  • A dynamic event system with atmospheric encounters and tough decisions outside of combat.
  • Three late game crises – a war between noble houses, a greenskin invasion and an undead scourge – add a looming threat.
  • Two full hours of orchestral soundtrack.
  • 70 Steam Achievements and Steam Trading Cards.

Overhype Studios is an independent game developer studio from Hamburg, Germany. We are devoted to making great games that we want to play ourselves. With Battle Brothers we strive to reflect the creativity, complexity and originality from the old days when game developers were passionate gamers, not corporate businessmen. While doing this we took a lot of inspiration from some of the best games out there: The original X-Com, Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat and Jagged Alliance.

I initially gave this game a negative review but I'm a better man now, and I'm still giving it a negative review. I grabbed this on Xbox on a sale a few years ago and fell in love with it. I've recently returned to it and been brutally reminded how heavy the game is on chance. It's truly heartbreaking to put so much time into melee and never hit anything. The easiest difficulty is still hard. It's not a game if you're looking to just have fun. It WILL challenge you in every way, but that's what makes this game so special. Every time you go down you learn something new, it's frustrating but you can save-scum. YOU WILL SAVE SCUM. At some point, you'll get unlucky and lose too much. It's up-to you whether you take that and restart but more often than not you've become invested in your characters, and the time it takes to get to the point where you're ready to take on the mid game you've already invested HOURS. It is a good game, I will keep playing it and hate myself for it Ove...

Final Fantasy Tactics was my favorite game growing up. That game allows to you be a perfectionist and hand craft teams that can overcome any challenge. This is not that game. The learning curve is steep managing stats, gear and perks before you even get to tactics. My first few runs ended in less than 10 days. Brothers you get attached to die. They get permanent injuries. You run out of money. You slowly lose the war of attrition until you collapse. Along the way you've learned valuable information. Your next run starts taking smarter contracts. Using daggers to backstab for more gear. You put your weak mercs in front and don't feel for losing them. You get momentum. You get a solid composition of bros and take fights on good terrain. The orcs that day 5 wiped you before now get taken out without a major injury or death. Progress feels good in this game but never good enough to rest on your laurels. It's not for everyone, but if you like turn based tactics this might scratch a few h...

While I think it's a tight experience, the vanilla scope feels too restricted for this to be a rewarding game. It gets repetitive quickly, and after a dozen hours I was already bored. DLC might fix this issue, but I'm not impressed enough to buy it.

This game looks very simple on the surface, but it is a very engaging and difficult experience. I love the setting and storytelling that emerges throughout your playthroughs. I only wish they would add more updates/expansions to the game.

Lost the tutorial. My score? Zero. Zero points. Spent over an hour at that... now I'm insecure.

It's too hard. Seriously, it's one of those games where if you have a little bit of bad luck you're totally screwed, making it not fun

i'm sorry but this game is kinda bullshit w/the RNG on hit% .. 70% to hit and i whiff 5x in a row? that's absolutely game breaking and idk i just can't back this, the fact that you HAVE TO scum save or you're just gonna fail is a bit ridiculous, cuz all you're doing is trying to reset the RNG of your guys actually hitting their targets. Feels a cheap way to keep the player down.

Another RPG where the role you're playing is "the Victim."

Enjoyed this game for years, now it has a game breaking savefile corruption issues, with every 3rd or 4th attempt to save ending in a CTD and a corrupted save. No, I am not running any mods. Hopefully they fix this at some point, would love to play again.

Game is terrible and unforgiving. I've really tried to like it. Risk vs. Reward vs. contract value vs. difficulty is WAY off. You can't hit anything, even when you invest totally in being able to hit things. Ridiculous.
