About This Game

Hi, my name is Dennis and I am the creator of Windscape, a first-person exploration adventure. Instead of just letting you read a boring game description, please allow me to share my vision of the game I am creating. Hopefully you will like what I am working on.

Ever since my childhood I was a huge fan of the Zelda series of games, Golden Axe Warrior, Secret of Mana and games in which let you explore a vivid world without time pressures and a too restrictive storyline. Over the past year and a half I’ve been working on my vision of a modern exploration adventure, combining it with my fondness for modern crafting and sandbox games.

In Windscape you play as a young girl living on your parents’ farm, set in a lovely world made up of floating islands in the sky. As you discover the world you learn that something has gone terribly wrong - islands are breaking apart and falling from the sky! It’s up to you to discover the evil that is threatening the universe of Windscape.

As you travel the world(s) you will gather valuable resources allowing you to craft a plethora of items such as weapons, shields, potions, magical spells and much more. Some items will be just for fun while others are a necessity for your survival.

You will meet peaceful NPCs and vicious monsters both on the surface of each island as well as in the dungeons and lairs you uncover along your journey. While I want the islands to work in a non-linear manner, I have decided to make the dungeons more puzzle and combat driven - each with its own style and atmosphere.
Windscape will feature tactical fights against larger bosses such as ghosts, ogres and dragons. Of course, there are many valuable items to loot too.

What I don't want Windscape to be? A stats-driven RPG, a terraforming sandbox game or a first-person action game. This is why I am asking for your support. I’m building this game for the community and hopefully with the community. I feel your feedback is really needed to match my vision with the high standards you, the players, demand. Because of this I have chosen to go into Early Access, hoping to make great friends and build a community which shares my vision and aids me on my development quest…

Key elements of Windscape

One of my very first decisions was that I wanted the world to feel like a living and breathing environment. While I could have employed procedural world generation, as so many other games do these days, I have decided against this so I can flesh out the most beautiful corners of the world in detail. While this means that sadly there will be a point when “you have seen it all”, I still feel very comfortable with my decision as it allows me to put you right into the world we’re building, with places to remember and stories to tell.

I already have the game’s universe mapped in my head but I also want the game to go where the community’s input takes it too. For the final game I am planning for at least four very different maps, and I’ll appreciate the support on choosing the most fitting ones. The game starts on a pastoral island with peaceful nature, a flourishing little village, a water mill and many more idyllic spots to discover. Over the next few months I am looking forward to revealing more scenery and gathering valuable feedback from the players to help me make the next big decisions.

Why always a boy? I hope you will come to love Ida as much as she has grown on me during the game’s development. Sent out by her parents into the small neighborhood town to make a delivery, Ida is yet unaware that soon the fate of the world will be resting solely upon her shoulders…

I have created a resource and crafting system which is intuitive to use but allows many things to be made. Basically you will find different crafting stations at key places all over the islands, each enabling you to build different things if you have gathered the resources needed. You can cook healthy or just yummy food, craft sweeping shields and weapons, mix mysterious ingredients to create powerful magic potions, melt iron and copper into new forms of metal and much, much more.

I want the dungeons to be an enthralling deviation of the more open exploration and story driven game that takes place on the islands surface. The first big dungeon you will encounter is a copper mine infested with rat-like enemies. Here you will also encounter the first bigger boss monster - with a great reward waiting for you if you make it out alive. Some dungeons will be an incremental part of the story while many others and smaller caves are hidden in the world for you to just discover.

I hope you like my ideas of Windscape. Together we can all create a game which lives up to the vision I have set forth. Thank you for your support!

This game is overall extremely meh. It's an okay timesink, but it feels like they got halfway through developing it and gave up or rushed, the last level is aimless and the game ends abruptly, there's a cool mechanic introduced in the second area that never gets used again, and there's MASSIVE glitches that should have EASILY been caught in QA, locked doors aren't locked, unpowered switches can still be used in most cases, you can sequence break in a few dungeons completely by accident. Most NPC's only have one line of dialogue, which is fine if they aren't essential but questgivers often repeat the first line of dialogue they gave you even after you complete their quest. All in all if the game's on sale for like 5 bucks pick it up, but it's definitely not worth the price it is.

This guy summed it up well. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. It's not even beta ready. The game just flat out sucks, the AI is all boring and you rarely see an enemy and all you have to do it is side step and hit it in a circle. There is no story. If you want a sub par walking sim, then this is up your alley. Not worth playing. Copied from: RainMaker I'd also like to add to the no story part, he's right. There's none. You're an errand boy the whole game, I haven't felt a sense of accomplishment the whole time I've played so far. But I do love the art style very much. That's all I can really give it.

I am going to be extremely critical because I want this game to be good. I will also use The Legend of Zelda as a good reference point in several aspects because that is what the game wants to be like.
TL;DR:
It is a gorgeous game with great exploration and ideas that are ruined by flaws in combat, effectively no way of interacting with your environment or obtaining new items to allow you to complete puzzles or interact with your environment and exploring the world with too much walking especially in the desert area of the game. I have seen lots of reviews saying that this is like a 3D like Zelda game with exploration and good combat. Honestly, yea i can see it and I enjoy the art style and the overall feel of the game. It just isn't polished or really fun and loses its charm after the first dungeon. The dungeons honestly are the most fun part about it.
The combat
The combat gets repetetive and although you feel the impact of your swings it all turns into circ...

Do not buy this game! - Glitchy. - Bad story. Generic. Boring. Ending without any explanation. - Very short. - Not challenging at all. - Boring enemies. - Boring crafting. - Nearly no impact of own decisions. - Boring riddles. To sum it up, it feels like the developer got bored of the game himself. To be fair, i liked the music and the style of the graphics.

I paid $8.5 for this game because I got it on sale and I still don't think it was really worth it. I suffered through way more of this wannabe Legend of Zelda than I honestly should have. I got all of the acheivements and "experienced" the vast majority of the content that the game has to offer. After the first 30 min I kept playing because I really, really hoped that it would get better. It didn't. I'm not going to give this game the few compliments that I can before tearing into it with all of the pent up frustration of dealing with the game's garbage combat system (those mummies can %%%% off thanks). Pros: +It runs and doesn't appear to have too many game ending bugs. I managed to get through 5.7 h of gameplay without anything major. For most EA titles, that's not too bad! +I've played worse +the first 30 min weren't too bad, almost fun +It ran well on my nvidia 940m on ultra graphics +the graphics were good, until they weren't, +The skull boss in the crypt was a pretty goo...

The game became unplayable with a major bug. After unsuccessfully trying to resolve the issue myself I emailed the support for the game and never received a response.

It's a fun, visually appealing little Zelda inspired game for the first couple hours. Then you run out of equipment to progress to, and THEN you get to the desert. The desert is just awful, honestly. You get access to a couple new pieces of equipment, most of which I already had the materials to make as soon as I arrived. Then you're given a bunch of quests that involve running long distances across featureless sand. It was kind of funny how I got the tooltip about choosing your attacks based on enemy resistances, immediately before entering a zone where all the enemies have resistances to every single damage type. Based on the first area I'd say the game definitely has some potential, but it still needs a lot of work that really should have been taken care of while it was still in early access.

Windscape has so much potential, but the game seems abandoned by the devs. A lot is broken or poorly functional. Bosses are bullet sponges with 2 mechanics each, all almost identical, the map and quest markers sometimes work and sometimes don't, the achievements are broken - requiring learning how to use a prior version of the game to get some -, and there is a lot left to want. Oh, enemies don't really have a brain and simply come at you with the same attack over and over again, leading to a lot of bashing fests. However, it's a mildly interesting adventure RPG game that looks like a student project. If they ever come back and fix it, Windscape has a lot of potential, but I cannot recommend it at this point. Take a look at my reviews. I almost never give a negative review. Unfortunately, Windscape is one such that I will not recommend. Put this on your wishlist until the devs come back and do some updates.

Sadly even after leaving EA it still feels unfinished and overly basic. Do not buy
