About This Game

A Fresh Twist On Classic Block-Pushing Gameplay

Gemima brings infuriatingly compelling couch co-op to the classic Sokoban genre! Turns out life in four directons isn't necessarily simpler...

Twice The Challenge, Twice The Fun!

Grab a friend (or play solo for a true test of dexterity!) and take control of apprentices Gemima and Jules in their quest to gather gemstones from the Mine of Mages. They'll have to work together closely to overcome the many traps and obstacles, and use their magical affinities (helpfully depicted by their hair colour) to dig, push, and collect their way to success.

Play Against The Clock - Or Not

Take your time and think things through - or for the ultimate challenge, coordinate to solve each level before the Mage Mining Company blows the tunnels sky-high.

Oodles Of Levels - And A Map To Explore!

Many puzzles have more than one solution, and each will take you in a different direction. Can you find every nook and cranny of the mine?

Co-op On One Keyboard Or Controller

Gemima's simple controls mean two players can share a keyboard or controller. Although that will put you within easy reach when you make a mistake...

8/10 A Sokoban plus Supaplex adventure for two! What is it: A box-pushing, boulder dodging game in which you control two players. Gemima (pink) and Jules (blue) are trapped in a dungeon, and they must keep on exploring, going from room to room, until they can reach the top and go back outside. Each room has colored gems, sand, boxes, boulders, and one or more doors. Opening the doors requires collecting all the gems. The two players and the boxes behave like a classic top-down sokoban, without gravity. The gems and the boulders behave like in Supaplex, rolling down and smashing any unfortunate character that happens to be underneath. The gems are color-coded, with only one of the two characters able to pick them up, but so are some of the doors, crates, boulders, switches and sand. Not only must you solve each level, but you must constantly juggle the positions of the two characters, making sure you leave enough room for them to swap places. https://steamcommunity.com...

Gemima is a fun spin on the boulderdash formula, mixed with some sokoban-style crate pushing. I've been playing it entirely co-op, over steam remote play, but it would be perfectly feasible to solo instead as there are (so far at least) only limited requirements for simultaneous action. It's got a decent variety of puzzles, and some entertaining (groan-worthy) puns in both the level names and the minimal but cute dialog lines. The most annoying thing is the undo system, which is linked to when you collect gems, but this means that if there are no gems near a difficult section, you don't get any undo points. None of the levels are huge though, so it's not a deal-breaker. There's a slo-mo option on the pause screen which is very helpful for the parts where timing is critical, especially with the lag player 2 sometimes gets over steam remote play. After 4 hours, I would guess I'm a bit over halfway through, which seems like good value for the low asking price.
