Must-have-game! Great story, great piece of art. Visually so beautiful and underlined with a soundtrack that will give you goosebumps.

It's a great game, just quit once you get to Xen. The game drags on and on and on and on from that point. If they had trimmed about 70% of what's there currently it would have been fine, instead you get a frustrating mess of form over function that overstays its welcome by 3-4 hours. It's about as beautiful as it is irritating, that is to say, very.

Coming from an "OG" Half-Life enjoyer. I would suggest not to buy this if you think this game is similar — it's NOT: • Some encounters are changed; • A whole chapter is pretty much missing (On a Rail); • The movement, fights are kinda clunky and are waaaaaaaayy more in line with Half-Life 2 However, I would suggest you buy this because the game is actually f*cking good: • A bit outdated, but graphics and scenery look awesome without any nostalgia glasses on; • I greatly enjoyed destroying HECU marines and aliens with explosives, mah shotgun and a trusty crossbow; • Actually, I loved all of the weapons, they are done superbly, and you can mod them to your liking via Steam Workshop, too: change animations, change their look, — all thanks to great modders from the community; • The Nihilanth fight is a huge improvement over the original, just like the whole new Xen, although some parts of it are a bit too stretched for my li...

I originally played Black Mesa when it was released for free back in 2012. I played through it again recently, and wow it's improved so much. They've done an absolutely fantastic job of remaking Half LIfe, and in particular I really like what they did with Xen and Interloper. Xen is a real part of the game rather than just an afterthought like in the original game. Highly recommended!

An absolute masterpiece. I played the original half life back in the day, but mostly as multiplayer at internet cafe. I have attempted the campaign a few times, but didn't stick to it. This remake was done with so much love and attention to detail. Just wow!

i dunno, it's really well developed, and maybe this game just isn't for me, but I find myself asking "the heck am i supposed to do" rather than "how do you expect me to do that", and just didn't have fun running around looking for the way forwards.

If you haven't played the original HL1, this is the version you must pick as it comes with significant visual improvements, minor but many quality of life changes and some aspects that are toned down. However, if you have played the original before, this game will definitely not change your opinion on HL1 as it is literally the same game on the basis. I personally don't like HL1 so much due to the abysmal platforming and bullet-sponge enemies which are literally the same here. But I still have to "recommend" it due to the lack of a rating system on Steam.

The devs did a masterful job remaking the game. Xen is like a whole nother game. Graphics are cool considering its running on source engine. Though took me about 15 hours to beat the game, it's not short.

41.1 hours played / Finished singleplayer campaign The Good:

The NPC behavior is reactive, making them more human-like than artificial;
Engaging puzzle sections that introduce variety to the gameplay i.e. less monotomy and more mind-bending;
Great and melodic soundtrack that perfectly reflects every situation that happens within the game;
Mesmerizing visuals that do a good job at creating a good immersion for the player;
Re-imagined maps that offer far more content than the original game ever did. For those who played the original before, they will instantly recognize most of the maps at a first glance, but be welcomed with a completely different flow and scale, which benefits the game greatly;
The last few chapters were remade from scratch thus making them a vastly different and superior experience compared to the original.
The Bad:

Enemies are far too precise with their shots forcing the player to be as quick as possib...
