WARNING: THIS GAME IS ACTUALLY DIFFERENT!
This game features a very deep, truly physics based combat system. This is not just some animation feature, it is a fundamental difference that is central to gameplay. Real momentum, forces and collisions are always at play here, every nuance of your inputs is crucial to the outcome. This will likely be unlike anything you've played before and may take some practice, but can be hugely rewarding and the skill cap is virtually infinite. It is not particularly fast paced or difficult but it does require you to pay attention, it is very tactical and just casually pressing buttons won't get you very far!Our goal is to create a deep and immersive RPG world based on a more advanced simulation supporting an unprecedented level of dynamic and emergent gameplay. All of the technology we use including the game engine is our own, developed from the ground up to realise this vision.
Exanima is born as a prelude to Sui Generis (SG), our ambitious open world RPG that has been in development for over two years following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Exanima is a smaller yet complete game in its own right, a dungeon crawler that takes place in SG's Underworld some twenty years prior to its events. Both games are being developed in concert, many of SG's more ambitious features will make an appearance in Exanima as development continues.
Exanima provides a reasonably complete and meaningful game experience, but many more features are on their way! We have met our most challenging and significant development goals, now we are ready to bring new features to light and make an even more fun and compelling adventure. Here are some of the planned features, with many already being close to completion:
- Per session and global character skill progression
- Large non-linear main game following early content
- Build and permanently save characters by completing early content
- New encounters, items and environments
- Ranged combat and new close quarter manoeuvres
- Numerous moddable thaumaturgic powers
- More complete arena game modes featuring outdoor arenas
- Complex NPC interactions and dialogue
- Cooperative and competitive LAN multiplayer

This is an odd one..... It's not abandoned it just doesn't seem to have a plan, scheduling, or goal. It's a feature creep test bed simulator. There are several things to be aware of. BEST and also WORST: If you have played very many games with any type of character movement over the last decade....you will be completely clueless in this one. It's not badly implemented, it's just nothing like the industry standard that has been imprinted into your muscle memory. Your gonna have to un learn that and learn this one. Diff peeps is gonna get diff mileage outta that. The unique choice made better sense back before the 2 hour refund days(yea this was in EA then too). And back in the days movement hadn't basically defaulted. The scheme works and works well, but each individual user is gonna have to make a determination if it works well enough. witihin that 2 hr limit. But considering movement is the 1st thing the player interacts with and will need 30 minute to a couple hours to ...
Either finish the game or just have the guts to say you need to abandon it. If you do not have the time to finish it, stop stringing our hopes along please. The excuse that you are doing this on your "off-time" no longer flies now. Take it off Early-Access and either abandon it or get to work.
From time to time the same mystery comes to my mind. Is the developer an elf or something? I mean, those elegant and supercilious creatures with a lifespan of over 500 years. Because as far as I am concerned, for the developer, the concept and feeling of time is definitely different from us pathetic mortals. After 8 years possessing this game, I can't help starting to wonder whether my remaining life will be sufficient to support me seeing this game reaching its full release.
this game is stuck in development hell. the dev posts diaries in the "news" section for the game that reads like AI slop. the game will never be finished mark my words. if it gets finished i eat my hat.
devs suspected of using AI to formulate their "diaries", which even if aren't AI gen slop, are still slop they communicate nothing to anyone not an expert in their mostly theoretical game design philosophies, building systems that have never existed before, and then not adding them to their game while boasting about how cool it'll be to play in... *looks at watch* god.... it's been ten years already? repeated posts of the same theoretical "systems" my grand children may get to enjoy, with little to no actual content the game has a rigid structure, all the same stuff in the same order, a mostly empty and convoluted mess of hallways that, while atmospheric and adding to the "world" in the game, they're mostly a GPU and CPU burning piece of eye candy that quickly becomes grating to "navigate" this isn't even mentioning the scuffed physics, claimed to be this revolutionary game design, but the isometric camera makes it feel like i'm pilotting a bloated and rotting whale carcass around, ...
Nearly 250 hours put into this negative review, likely around 180 actually playing and not tabbed out. This store page at the moment is false, this isn't an early access game, this is a tech demo for the concept of a game that will never see the light of day. So much wasted potential. I don't recommend getting your hopes up and spending countless years waiting for the not-early access version. Some people will bemoan you for expecting less than a decade wait for an early access game. These people are wrong. No amount of game development necessitates this much time and obfuscation, and defending these practices when better examples such as half sword are becoming more prominent, is just ignorant.
2 years without update.
Devs are just lazy. How is it possible to develop Pre-Alpha game in 10 years ?
good proof of concept, but after YEARS of backing the devs all we get is AI generated progress updates and no new content... i'd say dont wast your money
